I would say at 7 months the overall coat should be 3-4 inches. Not sure what you mean by hair short on her face. Hair length overall should pretty much be the same unless she is playing really rough with another dog and breaking hairs. Pictures would help. Please see instructions on pictures section of this forum. |
I'm sorry to say Karen, that after just looking at your pic, that is NOT an OES. I would say it looks like a border collie, but it doesn't even look part oes..... Very cute dog though! |
From the pictures, it definitely doesn't look like an Old English Sheepdog. Have you seen any other puppies from the litter? I don't mean this to be funny, but did the owner have any other kinds of dogs around that may have, uh, gotten into the gene pool?
Just for comparisons' sake, this is what my puppy looked like at around the same age. I think he was about or almost 6 months here. |
Oh that is the most adorable picture!! These dogs are irresistable!
Karen -- your puppy is very cute too! |
Karen-
Your puppy is so cute--I am agreeing with ButtersStoch--it looks like there might have been an 'unwanted' guest introduced into the mix with the puppy's mom! |
Better check with the milkman............. that puppy needs to be askin' WHOSE MY DADDY????
But he looks really sweet!!! |
Karen, Did she send you papers on the dog? Does she have papers for the parents? I only ask, because when I was 18 I bought my mom what was supposed to be a teacup poodle...he came with no papers (she said she was going to mail them) and no shots...I took him to the vet for his shots and the vet said " what a nice mutt" WHAT??? I just paid $300.00 for this teacup poodle...No, its a mutt, and it was taken from her mother too soon, he seems to only be 4 wks old...I tried to return the puppy later that day with his shots...and she wouldnt answer the door.. we ended up in small claims..we won, but we had a dog that we had to put to sleep after a 1 1/2, because he was so mean and aggressive. I believe that it was because he was taken from his mom too soon....poor charlie In any event, I would call the breeder for more info on the parents...it doesnt make you want the puppy any less though, does it? |
Now I know I shouldn't register her. It just kind of stinks that we were fooled. All the puppies looked exactly the same in the litter. No other dogs that I could see or was told about. Thanks to everyone for their quick responses. Even though she's not an OES she's still family. |
It is awful that they did that to you, but she is beautiful, and like you said, family |
Her face looks like Pepsi's but he is shaved down.
Kinda reminds me of the dogs that Second Chance has...with the short hair on the face. Maybe a genetic defect and she is an OES? I love the look though. What a cutie! Elissa |
How much does she weigh Karen? It's hard to get a good idea of size in the pictures.
You're right, at this point, it really doesn't matter anyway. She's your baby and who cares what she is, just that she's yours! |
From what we have discussed on the other forum, what do people mistake your oes for....you could totally get away with it... Obviously not many people would know the difference anyway....
But Karen, really, she is beautiful...it really doesnt matter!! Just love her up and tell her from one mixed pole to another, its okay...yummy belly rubs are yummy belly rubs!!! |
Bless her heart, she is just precious!!!
Which brings to mind........ " a rose by any other name would smell as sweet" I do think you shoulf get a statement from your Vet to give the breeder. The breeder should not be selling dogs as OES if they aren't. I don't know how much you paid ( you can't put a price on the love of a pup) but perhaps a partial refund would be in order. Good luck with you pup and stick around he's obviously "one of the family"!! |
Hi Karen,
Welcome to the forum!!! She looks so sweet. I bet she is good natured. How much does she weigh? I have Beaumont and he is 7 months old and weighs 63 lbs. |
She is absolutely adorable, not matter what she is. She looks like she might have some Border Collie? But as said before, once ya love 'em, ya love 'em furever. I do think that you need to confront the breeder, as they will continue to sell "OES Registered" pups. There are other people that might not be as responsible as you, and continue to breed. |
She has the right pattern for an OES...but if you've never shaved her or trimmed down she would be way more shaggy not smooth looking.
I agree that the dad was probably a black and white border collie...if you live in a small area you may be able to see the near by homes and see if a border collie lives in the area. The face is long...even similar to the greyhound family, or afgan dogs... My Tag is a cross between OES female and standard poodle...but you definitley see the OES in his body shape, he has the rolling gait like an OES, square body, round back end, and wide feet...but soft as a baby's bottom due to the poddle hair, and smart as a whip. Goodluck, see everyone's pictures and it will give you a good idea of pure OES at different ages...or visit www.dogpixandflix.com (I hope I got that right)...anyways lots of pictures of every type of dog out there. She is a pretty dog tho, I hope her breeders acknowledge their mistake....let us know how it goes. Did you get pictures of the parents? |
If you do a search on the main page... There are a ton of dogs that come up for that that aren't OES. I believe they pretty much pull everything that has either "Old" in the description, "English", or "Sheepdog."
I do know that the Big Picture Page is all OES Here is the link for there http://www.dogpixandflix.com/editors_choice_bigpicture.php?osCsid=6dc50e8c9a9e2ae27db11e5609d10161 |
She is absolutely gorgeous no matter what breed she is. |
The breeder has requested pictures. I think I'll include a copy of all your feedback as well. There's a lot of valuable info and questions that he needs to answer. Thanks again for all the input. Will keep you posted.

Good Luck with the Breeder. Remember you paid for an OES not a mix you should be compensated for that. If the breeder gives you problems you can take them to small claims court to recoup your loss. Or threaten to report them to the AKC.
Hopefully you won't have to go that far. Good Luck again and keep us updated. Elissa |
Yes, good luck. Definitely include our feedback and some of our pics too! |
I'm sorry that you have to go through this. She is very cute but definitely a mix. |
Your dog has such a cute face there.
I also agree with others that this dog is definately a sheepdog mix. The coat's coloring and some of the facial features are very OES like. The rest of this dog's features look like they come from a Border Collie. Your dog really is the ideal hearding dog! He/she will have the agility of the Border Collie to manuver around the sheep and the OES size to contol sheep effectively as well. |
She is beautiful! I was thinking that she looks as if a Golden Retriever and and OES got together? Just a thought!
Good luck with the breeder! And please keep posting, I'm very interested in what he or she has to say! Colleen and Gucci George |
