I had a list of three kinds of dogs I would love to have in my life. This included The Old English Sheepdog, The Rough Collie and the Bearded Collie. All are relatively rare in the area I live, in fact I looked for a couple of years to find any of the three. I just found a beardie that looks like she would fit well in our family. And maybe if I hadn't mentioned that I needed to go get both dog and cat food, a new leash, and training treats before I mentioned the sweet looking beardie to my dear husband, he would have given me a chance to show him the picture so he could be as big a sucker as I am. Because I really need another dog with a high need for activity and a herding instinct while living in town. Just like I need another dog that has a high maintenance coat. Or a dog that probably has issues like she pees on the floor, and she's afraid of the dark... (which is only really acceptable in one animal at a time). I can barely control the two dogs I have now. Although, training starts tomorrow. I have arthritis in my major joints and back that will only get worse as time goes by, I shouldn't take on another pet of any kind. Although beardies only get to around 40 pounds, and she looks a lot smaller than Opal. And we don't know if the two dogs we have now aren't going to develop major health issues like Bandit did. I can't go around carrying 3 old dogs in and out of the house, nor can I afford medical bills if all three were to fall ill or be injured at the same time. Five pets is too many for us. Although Molly the old cat is really old, and showing signs of dementia, but knowing our luck Molly will be around another 5 years just out of spite. sigh. Darnit. |

It really is hard not to look and dream of adopting another. |
Yep, that's why I try not to look. While we have the room, we aren't getting younger. I'd not want it to become who holds up who......I hold up the dogs or the dog holds up me. I know I'll never have another 7 pack......I'll have to live with memories. |
Me too, looking at dogs on the internet just makes me want another. |
My mother would say "there is no such thing as just looking at a dog." Meaning if you look, you buy (or adopt or whatever.) You're coming home with a dog. I'm another who never looks because it is too tempting. |
I can look at puppies, play with puppies and cuddle them, and easily walk away. Show me a grown, hairy dog in need and I apparently kick into saving mode. I'm a sucker. |
So how old is to old to have "another" dog? When Sprocket goes I am thinking on another sheepie at around 67.x |
Several ladies at coffee shop today with Adopt Me vests on dogs. I could actually walk away, not my type of dogs. One dog in training was a Toller.......therapy Toller? She was a cutie. |
I would have the potential to be a hoarder. I want to take in all the dogs with sad stories and of course the seniors. I don't know how old is too old but I have stated Macie Grace is my last dog. She will be 3 in January. Anyway, my vet laughs at me and so does everyone else that knows me. It has even been suggested I get one of those little ankle biters that I can carry around. WHY, as I get older, would I want something smaller than a Sheepdog when I more than likely would trip over it because I can't see it?!!!!! My idea of a small dog is a puppy that grows to a BIG dog! I down sized from St. Bernards to Sheepdogs and a Golden Retriever. Now, if I won the bazillion dollars.................................. |
