Bloo has always had these sort of bald patches on his heels and elbows where he lies down and leans but on one of his back heels there's 2 dry crusty skin lump sort of things its like a lump but extremely dry and sticks out away from the skin. The only way I can ddescribe it is that it looks like the back paw pad on the front legs. Ive been putting cream as its lifted from the skin amd has cracked looking painful. When you rub it dty skin pieces come off. Im thinking maybe ad he lies on his heelsits just bad dry skin or a wart of some kind? It is black in colour |

It sounds interesting, and I'm trying to picture it. Can you take a pic with your phone of it? |
It sounds like callousing. Tiggy has the dry flaky skin on her elbows but it's white with pink underneath. My old kelpie had the black callouses but his skin was dark too. As Dawn said would be good to see a picture. |
Hi Sam, is Baloo still having these patches? I agree that they sound like pressure-related/ calluses. Here's an article about their formation & tips to help (if you think this is what Baloo has) http://theblissfuldog.com/dog-elbow-callus/ |
Jack had a major set which told me his previous life was probably always on concrete. Once here he was a pillow boy but the calluses didn't go away. Once in awhile the callus will hyper-grow to enormous proportions and hang like ugly saddle bags. I'm sure lovely Bloo's aren't that bad. Read somewhere there may also be a skin mite involvement in the larger ones. So give Bloo plenty of soft pillows to rest upon and rub lotion into those crusties (hopefully he won't lick it right off again.) |
