I wanted to get this all sorted before he got big but - I guess looking back he had issues with his sight right from the start. When he was on the lead he would constantly and for NO reason walk diagnally across my path and almost deliberately tripped me up. A few things are going on here. I did use a snaffle ( nose halty) But he just used to stop dead and roll about trying to get it off. I think it pulled on his fur. I tried the body harness but it didn't give me enough control of the head. Now of course he is a much bigger and more powerful boy and just as daft lol Last year he near knocked himself out on the edge of a metal road sign! I am now doing what I used to do with our Blind OES pollyanna And for Murphy when I started to train him at 18 months. - I use my walking stick to push him back into the right possition beside me. So I hold it across his chest or tap the ground infront of me so he knows where I want him to be. It is a very long task. I also use the changing direction routine so I am pulling him not the other way around. Still going for a walk is increasingly more like getting dizzy! The other problem is that I have Arthritis in my hands now and up my arm and shoulder. I also have diminished power in my dominant hand - which is the left and the one I would normally hold my lead in. Often I am very sore and so we do unfortunately miss a deal of lead training which is not a good thing when your a 1 yr old bouncy fur ball full of energy. We do lots of other things like games and playing ball and racing in the yard and all sorts but I know this is no substitute for a good long walk on the lead. Can anyone suggest any ideas how to get past this. Oes |
