I kind of wish there were a few more people around here that had either breed of dog. Are sheepies really this rare, with only one or two to an area? I assume there are more in the Midwest and East. Same with the Lassie-collies--not so popular in Idaho, moreso in other areas? |

I've only encountered something like 6 sheepies in my life here in Central New York. One of them is my own dog Zeke, one was a neighbor's dog from the late '70s/early '80s, and a third one is Benson, Jonsey's girl. So only 3 that I didn't already know. And probably somewhere between 6-8 Airedales all my life here, with one of those being Brick. It's nice having a different kind of dog. Young people often either mis-guess the breed or flat out don't know and older people seem to have a tale of a grandmother or great aunt that had one of these 2 breeds. |
My sister and her then husband had an oes many years ago. I've not run in to any other than the people I've met, who live in Florida, through this site. When I take all 3 dogs out walking together (2 r aussies 1 oes) many people stop and comment that they used to have oes at sometime in their lives. Many also thing that China my blue eyed aussies is Violet's puppy. Violet is my oes. It's always fun to hear what people think. |

We have to add Benson's half-brother, Milton, to the list. But it's still a very short list! |
I only know of 4 owners in the immediate area. There may be more. |
I have seen four different sheepdogs in my dog walks, but only once. One person only lives a few blocks away, she had recently moved to the city, her dog is 8 and she she didn't know of oes forum. I haven't seen her again on our walks. |
There is an OES on our side of town, but the only reason I know about is a write up in a Dallas magazine. Goldens are very common in our area. Rogue is a Lab/Smooth Coat Collie mix. Labs, Collie, Prys and Pit Bulls are very common around here, usually as a mix. |
Archie is the only Sheepie in town plenty of Beardies everyone seems to know Archie by name even none dog owners. It's a one sheepie town! |
Angus lives in a one Sheepie town too! |
Popular dogs in our area are pitbulls, boxers, heelers-border collies-kelpie-shepherd mixes (farm dog), and labs. Also tons of small dogs like chihuahuas and shitzus. My goofy dogs might not be scary, or incredibly useful, or even capable of riding in the back of the pickup, but hey, they make me happy. |
There is probably 10-13 in this town and the town over that I know about, not including lily. The only time I ever see them is if there is a get together. |
There is still a shortage of Old English in GB. Never see any others except for our daughter's Dylan. We go to lots of bike/vehicle/rock and roll shows but have never met another one- met people who have had them and "just need to have a cuddle please". xx |
