incessant barking in the crate

First time OES owner with a 10 week old girl. She is wonderful when she is with us. playful, learning to potty outside very well, eats well, socializes well, can entertain herself, etc....However, any time she is placed in the crate even for a few minutes, she is absolutely frantic. Pushes on the door with her head, scratches the floor, poops in the crate, cries and barks so much her face is soaked (no water in the crate). I left for one hour to run an errand and came back to all of the above. I let her out of the crate when she stopped barking and she was all over me like she thought I had left forever. Crying and whimpering and then fell in a heap in the floor sound asleep. I have crate trained 3 cocker spaniels and I expected some reluctance, crying, and whimpering. I did not expect all of this above and incessant barking. She literally barked last night every hour for at least 15 minutes or more per hour. I let her cry, but she was a mess.

She was one of 11 in the litter. All slept together and parents were on site. Do you think she is missing her littermates or is there more to this? I have placed a warm blanket in the crate, favorite toy, gave her treats for getting in the crate, and turned on soft music while I was gone. None of it has mattered.

I do understand she is very young, but she is absolutely, frantically opposed to this crate. Any ideas? I must leave her for a bit tomorrow and she simply does not rest while in the crate. Thank you for any help!

At night, can you put the crate next to or close to the bed? This is the way I got my last three dogs through the crate tantrums. At night, if he started to cry I could just reach down and say a few words and he would quiet down. He just wanted to be sure I was still there.

Barking and whining at night "might" be a signal they need to potty. Simon, when we first got him used to get me up twice a night to go potty...and he did potty and went back to sleep. They are babies and have small bladders and need to empty often.
Thank you! We put the crate by the bed last night. She whined for a second, but no barking. BEst of all, she slept all night and so did I!

Leaving her during the day in the crate will still be an issue, but hopefully she will tire out and quit barking :)
I'm glad that worked for you. I know it helped us.

Once they get used to the crate at night, the day comes easier.
