Well, now he has a very small skin tag forming on his lower lid of the same eye. Any idea why this is happening and should I not panic? Thanks! |

Hi Deb! Hope all is well with you and the furry crew! Oscar has been getting these for a few years now. My vet has been removing them, mainly because Oscar is already deaf, and we don't need anything growing to obstruct his vision. We generally have two or three to remove at a time, and they have always been papillomas, nothing to worry about as far as malignancy. He had two removed a few months ago, one on his upper lid, and one right beneath it on his lower lid. Healing from the surgery is a gigantic pain in the patoot. My vet makes the stitches long, so they flair out from the eyelid like lashes, to keep them from knotting up and scratching the eye. This means they drive Oscar CRAZY. They itch, and they are in his line of peripheral vision, so he is constantly trying to rub his face on things. The stitches are in for two weeks, and by the end of it, I am exhausted from trying to keep Oscar from pulling out the stitches. Also, it's hard to keep clean. Because of it's proximity to the eye, you are limited in what products you can use to wash the area. If you have to remove them though, better to do it while the growths are small, as there is only so much tissue in that area that they can take out. Hopefully, Pirate they will stop growing, and Pirate won't need to have them removed. Laurie and Oscar |
Aw! Annie had started to get them too as she got older. The vet said not to worry about them unnless it got infected. All was well until the end.... |
