I'd like to try to cut that bill down. Where and/or how can I buy their food and meds on a discount? The deeper the discount, the better. Going to local stores is expensive. I want to buy the same brand name stuff I've been buying them, just want to get it at lower cost. What do those with multi-dog households do to keep your costs down? Coupons? Special purchase accounts? |

I get an employee discount - as the owner of The Paw where I teach classes also owns a large pet supply store. Great benefit with feeding our gang...I couldn't imagine only feeding 2! I also use the frequent buyer cards - many companies have cards where you record purchases/save UPC's and the 10th or 12th bag is free. Because I rotate foods, I have a dozen or more going all the time! Plus one for the cockatiel food too. |

This is one area where I have never found many ways to save. My vet did encourage me to order Comfortis online since I was ordering for 3. He even gave me the site he recommended where he had found the best savings- I thought that was very nice since he sells this product in his practice. I save a little bit and every little bit does help. As far as food--as Dawn said about the only savings there are the programs that the stores have. Our store sends a $5.00 coupon that is good for any brand they sell in the store, and we get two of those each month. They also have a program that once you purchase 10 bags --you get a bag free. I do like their particular program because they keep a record of it and I don't have to keep up with a card. I have heard several times recently in regards to the current state of the economy that the Pet Industry is booming. That is why you don't see much in the way of savings or marketing big sales. They do run sales but not deep cuts. Someone said that it used to be in a poor economy that Alcohol, Tobacco, and cosmetics were the most stable, however today it is anything to do with Pets. The Pet Industry is the most stable and has been since 2008. One guy said he was researching how he could get in to the pet industry with a business, because that was the only one he would consider starting up in today's economic environment. I thought that was very interesting. Bottom line--not many places to save, especially on food and meds. |
Bailey and Riley take Osteo-3, which is now called something else, a total of 5 pills/day. I get it on Amazon for significantly less than our vet charges. I still have to get Bailey's Denamarin from the vet - it's has had some production issues this last year, but our vet made sure I had some for her. |
