What to do, what to do...? |

Domino did the same thing at around that age. He is 14.5 months now. I kept feeding him the am one and a couple hours later removed it if it wasn't eaten. He has since started eating all his breakfast (although this am he was taking his time). he is on wellness large breed and has been since 8 weeks (now he is on the adult large breed). |
Keep offering it and if he refuses do not make up the amount in the second feeding. Over feeding may lead to bloat. They go thru periods where they are not hungry. No dog healthy dog will go long without eating. Skipped meals should not be need for panic especially if they eat later. |
We free feed. Lily picks all day, a mouthful here and there. I have tried two meals, one in the am, one in the pm and no matter what she just picks. Our dogs also do not resource guard. They happily share bones toys and treats. They will eat out of the same bowl at the same time. They even share with outside dogs. It works for them. They are also incredibly active so we dont pay too terribly much attention. This most certainly wont work for all dogs or families. They eat around 3-5 cups a day each. We did feeding times when we also had my middle aged hound. We had to force feeding times on the two younger dogs. We had to watch what he ate, when he ate, etc. He also had numerous health issues, had to take medicine that increased his appetite and at the end aggressive cancer. |
