It's Gonna Be A Velcro Day!

So the landlord is having a new roof put on our house. Yesterday was delivery day - shingles and a dumpster - and Benson was happy to have new stuff to sniff.

Today . . . THERE ARE MEN ON THE ROOF!!!

She started out in Hubby's office, but they were stomping and scraping and banging right on top of her. (Our 2nd floor used to be the attic, so the ceiling is the roof.) Since my office is on the 1st floor, she's decided it's safer down here, and she's staying no more than 5 feet away from me.

It's funny - she only starts woofing when they stop banging. 8O

Well that's natural, sheepdogs have a very strong work ethic, she's making sure the workmen stay on their toes and keep at it!
When they pound she knows where they are - they are suspects when they stop!
Of course, she didn't make a peep when one of them poked his head into the mudroom at the end of the day to unplug the electric cord. She just stood on the top step and watched.

Well, I never claimed she was a guard dog!

They've got everything stripped, the rotting sections replaced (yes, this roof really needed to be replaced!) and the vapor barrier nailed down. Tomorrow is just shingling, so there will definitely be lots more banging going on. If the weather's nice tomorrow night, we'll sit around the firepit and just let her chill.
:D This brought back memories of our roof being replaced in the middle of winter when we were in the Army-when we had our very first sheepie, Duffy! The government does not always make the best choices as to timing. We did not know they were coming and came home to find we did not have a complete roof and to a very annoyed Sheepie. He was beside himself and upset about the whole thing.

Well, of course you don't replace a roof in the dead of winter, so they left the job undone until spring-- about 4 months later they returned to finish and Duffy broke through the screen door and was not going to let them near the house. He nicely herded all the workman into the street and paced back and forth so they could not take a step.

We intervened of course and brought him back in the house so they could get the work done. He was not a happy dog! Finally they finished--but we were always amazed at his reaction-months later. He did not forget and he did not like what was going on!

Picturing a bunch of construction men on the street being herded by a sheepie is hysterical, lol.
This reminds me of someone else with a roof story.

I know someone who has two schnauzers and when I stayed with her they barked a lot.

She told me this is nothing, one time they were having the shingles redone on the roof and they were out but the dogs stayed home.
The workmen reported when they got back that the whole time they were working - 6 hours, the dogs barked continuously.

I wonder if dogs get sore throats from barking. :P
