Growling.... and biting

I'm quite upset and suprised. Two weeks ago my boyfriend (Bill) tried to take Benny outside before he left (he was home alone with him). Benny usually follows when you leave the room. Well, Benny stayed upstairs. After several minutes of coaxing, Benny did not come down. So, Bill went back upstairs to see what was going on. Benny was laying at the top of the steps and when Bill approached he showed his teeth and growled. He then ran into my bedroom and growled again. Bill was able to grab his collar and bring him downstairs (he comes without pulling once you have his collar). Once he was downstairs he was fine.

Well, the same type of behavior occurred this weekend.... only this time as Bill reached for his collar Benny bit his forearm. He did get collar and Benny willingly went downstairs with him and went outside and acted normal wagging his tail and playing. When he brought him inside to take him to the basement (where he stays when no one is home). He came right in and went down on his own like he normally does.

Both incidents occurred when I wasn't home so I'm only hearing one side of the story. I'm not sure if Bill lunged toward him as reached for him....
Regardless though I'm not happy with his behavior. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is dominance between Benny and Bill. Bill is not helping by grabbing.

OK begin letting Bill feed Benny......both with the bowl and by hand. Benny must sit on Bills command and wait for a single kibble. No yelling, hitting etc. Bill will have to walk Benny on leash making him sit and stay on command. (soft voice, but firm) Basically Bill will have to show Benny that he is higher on the pecking order. This is all done without violence.

Curb this now before it gets worse. If Benny is not yet neutered and won't be used for showing, get him neutered. That helps.

Finally..........If Benny were a Pyr and not a sheepdog I'd say drop Bill. Pyrs have an amazing way of sizing up humans quickly and correctly. Too many stories not to believe their ability.

Along with what SheepieBoss said, make sure that Benny is completely awake and oriented before making contact with him or getting extremely close. It seems that OES can be very grumpy when they first wake up.
If my dogs are sleeping and don't hear me coming they'll bark. As soon as they realize it's me they act almost embarassed. If they are sleeping and we wake them to go outside they tend to startle. Make sure that he is calling Benny's name well before he physically makes contact or gets within arms length.
Thanks for the tips!!! I will get started on them right away
