He drew quite a crowd today to watch him. Most everyone there had never seen an OES do the test! He got lots of applause and congrats! Our instructor said she has only had the opportunity to work with only one other OES and is looking forward to working with Murphy--so I think all will be good! Murph with his ribbons and his prize! He has also started his first agility class and loves it! He draws a crowd there too-Before long he will really think he is a "Rock Star" ! Waiting his turn with a big smile- We are having lots of fun! |

Sounds like Murph will be busy! Apparently he needs mental stimulation as well as physical, how wonderful you have the outlets available. |
Great job Team Murphy, looks like everyone is having fun. Yes Murphy you are a Rock Star. |
How fun for both of you But, Murphy was already a rock star IMO GOOOO MURPHY!!!! |
It was a great day! It is so fun getting out with your dog, doing things that you both can learn from and enjoy together. |
Good job Murphy! Have fun with your classes! Cindy |
That is awesome! He looks so happy and proud! I wish I had that available around here, I would love Ramsey to get into that! |
That is indeed a very good day. As Dawn said it is a lot of fun to do activities with your dog. Harry loves his dog sports. |

I had to do a lot of research and searching to find activities here. Not all are real close to me--but I do not mind driving an hour or so to attend because Murphy enjoys it so much. Keep digging and you might find that there are a few opportunities within a reasonable driving distance for you. It took me about a year to finally find a herding group. One thing that helps too, if you get involved with one group for training etc., they can usually steer you in the right direction for some of the other things you can't find. Don't give up--it can be out there even if it doesn't come up in a computer search etc. |
Yay Murph!! Agility and herding is so much fun! |

Checking with the active dog people in your area is a good starting point. Most of us are involved in more than one sport. And if we aren't, we KNOW people who do the other sports. Also check with the trainers of other things - like obedience, flyball, etc - as they tend to know about the other venues as well. Us instructors do a lot of networking within the dog world. And then there are internet options as well. If you look on websites of other herding breed clubs in your area, they may have events - or at the very least you can contact them to see if any members do herding. Also the groups that sponsor the events themselves - AKC, AHBA are the main ones. I know both list upcoming events across the country on their home pages. AHBA also lists trainers across the country. Not all are listed (like my group here in MN isn't on the list)...but if you make contact with one in your general area, I bet they could help you out. Good luck! |
I will look into both! There was a trainer about an hour from me that did agility, but an hour around here is really not the greatest drive. There is a dog trainer locally who is trying to get into agility, but nothing with herding. I have asked them. I guess no one is herding sheep near the beach!! =) Maybe seagulls, lol. I will definitely keep looking tho! Thank you for your input! |
We don't have stuff like that around here even though I live in the sticks |
