Roo finally got the point!! Just a week or two ago he finally nailed running after the frisbee, jumping in the air, and catching it! YAY!! And it all started with a puppy who let the popcorn boink him in the nose! I hope to get some pics up! So far he will go for long throws and do a "up high" command where he really gets some air! Of course since he is so large I don't like him doing it too much, just a few times a day. When we go outside he goes and finds a frisbee and brings it to me. Now, if I could just find a place to buy these things in bulk... I'm trying to keep it to one a day, but his big teeth are so bad on those things sometimes I throw them away after fifteen minutes! If anyone could suggest a durable frisbee that flies as well as the cheapo ones (I'm still looking!) that would be helpful. I don't like the floppy ones either. |

I have never been able to teach my sheepdogs to catch anything, even food! It bounces right off of their faces even if their hair is up. All the other dogs I've ever owned could catch like crazy.
I'm really amazed by these OES that can catch! |
Clyde walks into walls and tables-- daily. If he can't see a wall, I don't have high hopes for a frisbee. |
Sam likes frisbees, especially the soft ones that float. The other day, my husband threw a frisbee to Sam and "she jumped up and twisted around", except she didn't catch the frisbee and landed on her back...not the most graceful sheepies . So she did what she thought was correct...she got up, shook herself, picked up the frisbee in her mouth and went inside to the air conditioned house. Who says these aren't smart dogs!!! |
We've got Mulligan to be able to catch a few of his toys... but when most of the others come towards him, he ducks. LOL
He's such a wimp... |
Sam also likes tennis balls...i do this thing called 'sit catch' and she will catch the ball. She mainly likes to chase after them when I serve them with my tennis raquet. |
Panda catches a frisbee and tennis balls in the air...Brian gets cheapie frisbees at Petsmart...and he also got the "good" one there..Its red and more plyable, it has a raised bone on the top...easier to pick up!! look in the picture section "Ta Da Brian and Panda" I took the pictures while they were playing frisbee...none of the ones with her airborne came out...she moves too fast!! In fact, Panda only likes to play with her balls if you toss them in the air...great jumper and catcher!! |
Where can I find a soft frisbee about 9" diameter. My dog had one for about 3 years, finally wore out and she will not chase the regular hard frisbees.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you Handle200 |
I found mine at the "Big Dog" clothing store (they also have a few dog accessories). Our store is at an outlet mall. I have also seen them at Petsmart. |
Zippy has never been good at catching things either, and we usually have the hair in front of her eyes clipped

She's never walked into walls or tables before, but she did run into a parked car... twice! |
My dogs tear tennis balls apart and eat them, so they don't get them anymore....lol.... |
Gucci George is an excellent jumper! The problem is that our basement is only so big to throw things up in the air for him! When I take him to the playground, he could care less about balls, frisbees, etc....there are birds to herd and nothing else matters!
Maybe some day he will get tired of the birds and play with his mommy though I'm not holding my breath! Colleen and Gucci George |
