Monty has a Grooming Table

Finally got a grooming table for Monty.

I had been grooming on the floor or on their comfy dog mat, but Monty was rather wriggly whenever I tried to groom his back legs and bum. He inevitably would try and roll on his back or get up and sit back down facing me so I wouldn't groom his rear end.
Then he got some matted fur on the back of his back leg which I just couldn't brush out as it was too much teasing of the fur and he kept wriggling. I cut out the mat and there was a lump under it, which turned out to be blocked hair follicle probably because I couldn't brush down to the skin in that area.

My husband kept saying "you don't need a grooming table".....basically he doesn't want to see it set up permanently in the living room - which is something I would do :)
Anyway I ordered it and then told him I had ordered it but I am keeping the table in a spare room and grooming in there.

I got the grooming table today. Hoisted Monty up on the table. Buster was quite excited about the whole thing he was wagging his tail and then laid down watching whilst I groomed Monty for 40 mins.

It was definitely easier to groom the back of his legs as I could attach him to the arm and put my hand under is abdomen to keep him standing. There was some peeping going on as I was grooming his back end and he was trying to turn and sit down. I hope he doesn't get too confident on that table that he makes it hard for me again.

Buster is easy to groom, he likes his back end groomed and massaged.......Oh Buster.....Wish Monty did!!

Here is Monty on the new grooming table:

You can see Buster on the floor in the background watching the grooming event:

Nice table and Monty looks great!
When my boys decide to sit on the grooming table I put a collapsible cooler under them. No pressure or pain and they don't try to sit.

That's a good idea, thanks, I will keep that in mind for next time.
Hope the lovely boy stops the peeing, very sensitive back there. Wonder if there is spinal involvement or you found an "acupuncture" location--rub here and I'll pee.

Oh Buster! Abbott was the same way, you couldn't groom him enough, he just loved to be brushed. Of course during coat blow.........that came in handy.

He was peeping (whining) not peeing, thankfully.
Several years ago, I posted a grooming tutorial set - and I know I had a picture of the cooler as a prop...

Yes - here it is!

peeping is better than peeing!! Now show him the pictures of Chewing in position for a belly shave, Monty would really be Peeping, LOL!

Ha ha!

Dawn I hadn't seen these pictures of grooming chewie, thanks for posting a link to them.

I don't think I will do a belly shave on Monty. I am lucky as Monty likes his throat and belly groomed so rarely gets matted, he groans with pleasure and shows his happy tooth...you know when the canine tooth sticks out over the bottom lip and they grin.

I don't shave his belly for matting/grooming ease - when I shave it I do it to make him cooler. All the major arteries are in the axilla and groin, so keeping him short there helps. He's a real warm dog and with all our sports he needs to stay cool. He's not shaved now, but I just scissored him down really short this week like the area I shave in the essay.
Once the cooler weather gets here, we are going to be out carting in harness, logging in miles to condition for dog sledding this winter. :cheer:
We also have agility trials, and our 10 mile pack hikes will resume this fall also. It's just a nice way I can keep him in a decent coat yet cool enough to work...so he looks like an OES, and also for the tactile benefit as a therapy dog.

And big congrats on getting your grooming table. I don't use mine every time I groom - sometimes we like to sit on the floor and watch TV and line groom. But most of the time it's on the table. Great for my old and short dogs too - grooming, examining them, doing nails....they are a back saver! :go:
Monty looks great on his new table. Carley only wants me to groom one side of her. We really have fun with getting the other side done. The idea of a cooler to keep them standing sounds good. I might have to try that one.
Monty looks like a big stuffed toy. Adorable.!!!!
