Notice how I blame her And she was quite calm while we freaked, yelled at each other, hid(well, that was just me ) and prepared to attack with sheets And brooms. Where was the fearless squirrel chaser than never backs down?? Charm watched us like she was at the most entertaining event Not one bark, growl or even a yip as the bat circled overhead. It finally tired and hung upside down from the living room ceiling The neighbors saved the day with their pool net. Mr Bat was safely exited to the outdoors. I'm certain that it was as shaken as we were. Rocky wondered what some of "boys" would have done based on the skunk stories recently. We will not be leaving the garage doors open for our evening walks any longer |

I'm sure Charm had a lot of fun with the show! |
Love it! Maybe she heard bats eat mosquitoes and she was trying to help!!! |
Wish Charm could have worked a video camera We had two birds fly in our house one time and the 3 cats watched us freak out--never made a move to try to catch them and looked at us like we were crazy |

Oh, what excitement at Charm's house!!! Pool net - great idea. I had one bat episode as an adult. Many as a child - we lived in an old farmhouse and had bats. My sisters and I slept with our badminton rackets under our beds - and we would whack them, and then scream for dad to come get it...lol Then we had an exterminator out and got rid of them. And closed up their access points. My adult experience was after I'd graduated from college and moved into my house provided by my employer (I managed a 35000 laying hen farm). My GSD puppy Jenny and I had only been there a couple days, and one evening we had a BAT! I locked Jenny in my bedroom, not wanting her to get bit. The bat was in the open living/dining area. I opened doors - it flew everywhere but out. So - I called my dad! Mind you - I was about 100 miles from home. I'm sure my dad was laughing - but he told me I had to take care of it, because he wasn't driving down to save me. I had limited tools, but I found a shovel and got it behind my couch. I stunned it enough I could scoop it up, run out the door and set it loose....thank goodness it was a one time event! |
Never leave home without your tennis racket.......was that a backhand? |
Did Charm find a comfy seat in the stands from which to best view the evenings entertainment? |

Ohh for a video camera. Did you come in contact with the bat at all? Is there any concern for disease? Dawn, did you call your sisters too? |
Ron wrote: Ohh for a video camera. Did you come in contact with the bat at all? Is there any concern for disease? Dawn, did you call your sisters too? I agree - missed video opportunity!! As far as disease - bats really only have the risk of bites and rabies - and they are not statistically that high in most part of the country. By me, skunks are the rabies risk. Bats truly will avoid you at all costs if they can. And when they don't live in your house - they are good because of all the bugs they consume. No - no calls to sisters....only my dad!! But I bet they later heard all about it.. |

Oh, no chance that Charm and I could have had any contact I slammed the bedroom door every time it flew my way. I'm still freaked out that a bat hung upside down in my living room It's hard to video and slam the door at the same time |
Bats are cool but not in the house! Cindy |
When I went to school in Spain, bats were a regular occurrence inside the "dorm." I can still clearly see the maids running up and down the stairs with brooms trying to shoo the animals out. We'd go down to the river and watch the bats fly about........eating mosquitoes........but not getting them all as I'd come home covered in mosquito bites. |
Have bats here during the evening only small ones and never an issue, they are all protected here and you have to be careful or you can land in hot water. Quite cool to watch them flitting about. |
Bats are not cool here in Australia. We don't have rabies but we have two viruses called Lyssavirus and Hendra virus carried by bats which are similiar to rabies and are rapidly and universally fatal with no effective treatment. A young boy from up in Queensland just died recently after a bat landed on him and when a relative tried to get the bat off him it bit him. A very sad case I think he was only around eight years old. |
