It is illegal in Albuquerque and Bernalillo county. That's not to say I still don't see it, but the fines are getting bigger. |
Around here it is common to see cattle dogs in the back of a truck to include work trucks without sides. I have seen very few restrained, to include the ones without sides. |
In NJ dogs must have a seatbelt. I'm not sure about a specific law for pick-up truck beds. |
I'm guessing it is legal in MN, because apparently it's legal for PEOPLE! I never knew this. I knew it was legal when I was a kid (we did it all the time - but WITH a topper), but I was sure it had been changed by now..... Edit - this answer was from about 4 yrs ago. ****** Riding in truck beds Q: Is it illegal to have one or more people riding in the bed of a pickup truck if the truck has a topper? Tom, Believe it or not, currently it is legal in Minnesota for humans to ride in the bed of a pickup truck, whether or not the truck has a topper. It is not safe, but it is legal. A driver may, however, be charged for reckless or careless driving if they are swerving or committing some other type of driving maneuver which may further endanger the passengers back there. Thanks, and good luck! Sgt. Curt S. Mowers Public Information Office MN State Patrol |
However, I did find this current law article- it's interesting....varies if you are a farmer or a hunter. http://morrisvetcenter.com/morrisvet/Co ... ickups.asp |
In NYS, it's illegal for people to ride in the bed. Not sure about animals. We used to love riding in the beds as teenagers. We always talked of putting a pool liner in the bed, filling it up with water, and have a rolling pool party. Never did it however. |
I might have to look up the regulations re: people. The Navajo station wagon is a pickup with the women in the back. It (was??) such a common site one didn't think twice. There was just no way to get around the Rez for the folks if the family needed to be somewhere. As for the dogs, the rule here is they must either be in a secured kennel or have a tie down so they can't jump out or fall out. |
In washington it's legal with few restrictions, like the dog has to be teathered in the back of a truck. The resrictions are not enforced in my lil podunk town. You constantly see people in the back of pickups. They are too busy enforcing loitering laws to teens that hang out in the rite aid parking lot all night. Lol My gideon was a through and through truck dog. He was trained that way before I got him. It didnt matter where we were or who's truck it was, if the tailgate was down he was in the bed of the truck baying. He really loved just being in the bed of a truck. Didn't matter if it was moving or not. |
