Not OES, but Airedales that need help
I know these aren't sheepies, but there are at least 27 Airedales needing help in Henderson, KY. | I saw that story earlier. I hope they all get a better life. And groomers - they said all 27 are matted and they are looking for immediate aid with that. |
| They should just shave them all. It would be quicker, probably less painful, and probably less traumatic. Plus, it would give a better view of skin condition and parasite situations. |
| I have passed this info along to several people in Kentucky that might be able to help. Checking on exactly where Henderson is an who might be close but getting the word out. |
| Update from ATRA (Airedale Terrier Rescue & Adoption): Quote: Hi Everyone, There has been a large puppy mill bust in Kentucky including 27 Airedales. ATRA is in touch with the Humane Society and arrangements have been made for the HSUS to transport them to IL where they will be boarded at a Newfoundland rescue Kennel. Please post this information on any Facebook groups you are on and Airedale lists so that everyone will know they are safe. If you want to help, check ATRA' s Facebook page to see what they may need. The animal control officer informed us yesterday afternoon that the dogs are part of a criminal investigation and they are evidence. We have our plan together and arrangements made for them as Becky stated. The Humane Society of the United States contacted us yesterday asking for an estimate of costs for our group. Within an hour Ann Osburn, Alison Lang and myself had the paperwork completed and returned to them. The only thing we can do now is wait. The many clips and newspaper articles I have received have made my stomach turn and become very angry at the so called humans who had these dogs. As soon as we know of anything, we will let you know. | Another update: http://www.14news.com/story/23097618/pe ... -from-home They haven't brought charges against the breeder yet. The dogs can't be released until police finish their investigation. It sounds like they got medical attention on Thursday and grooming attention on Friday. What the dogs need most right now are donations and human interaction. | Hopefully the legal process goes quickly. I'm not thrilled to read that the HSUS got involved - it's sure to get very bogged up. They have their own agenda, and it's not the welfare of the animals, unfortunately. |
| Do local chapters of Humane Societies necessarily have the same agenda as HSUS? Are they even related? What exactly is the issue with HSUS? I don't know if the authorities had much of a choice. I don't know how big Henderson is, but maybe there aren't any other shelters there. In any case, it sounds like ATRA's on top of the situation and will be moving the dogs to a Newfie rescue kennel in IL as soon as the police complete their investigation and release the dogs. So if anyone wants to donate, maybe just send funds to ATRA. |
| I do not give to HSUS anymore. They don't operate any shelters, though they portray that they do in their myriad of advertising. They send some money to real shelters to help with spay and neuter programs, but a good portion of their money is spent on legal and lobbying efforts. HSUS philosophy is troubling to me as well, and I think their agenda is much more extreme than they portray to the general public. If you do an internet search, you'll see some of the critiques of their organization. We now donate to the ASPCA instead, and local shelters, as we feel our money will be better used to help actual animals in actual shelters. Laurie and Oscar |
| I had no idea that the HSUS was so controversial. I just want to help these dogs so I've been posting all the info I can find. If the mods wouldn't mind either giving me access to my previous posts to edit out the references & links to HSUS, or edit them for me, that would be great. Thanks. |

| Actually, another one or two have been adopted as well. What's interesting is that ATRA doesn't seem to be handling the adoptions. I'm trying to get more info on that. |
