How did this happen you ask? I did the "colour me rad" run last weekend. I looked like this: http://instagram.com/p/cCMQDKMhNj/ http://instagram.com/p/cCNO6ZshPV/ It is a 5km course where you run through stations where they throw colour bombs at you or hose you down with coloured liquid. It is very fun and I highly recommend it to people who are bored with running. When I got home Leonard ran to greet me and bumped his big sheepie head into my legs... Now he looks like this... http://instagram.com/p/cCNO6ZshPV/ They say this stuff is just corn starch and colouring but I have rinsing/washing tried several times and it won't come out (it faded ever so slightly). I had been advised to put lots and lots of conditioner in my hair before the run as I have very light hair. The colour rinsed right out! Unfortunately I didn't prepare Leonard's coat for such event- I honestly didn't think we would be so colourful. I do have purple stains in my ear (I had purple powder thrown right at the side of my face and my ear was full of it and on my back but they are small and fading. Any ideas other than shampoo? I am embarrassed to take him outside as I am worried people will think I actually did this on purpose. On our Sunday walk somebody remarked that he looked like he did Colour me rad... I explained I had and that he was very excited to see me when I got home. Poor Leonard... *edit- fixed links |

I'd say a good whitening shampoo - we use Clairol Shimmer Lights added to our regular shampoo and it keeps Caity and Zoey glow in the dark white! You'll need to go to a beauty supply shop to get it, like Sally's. And it only take a LITTLE bit. We put ten squirts from the pump into a 24 ounce bottle with our shampoo. Good luck! Vance |
I wouldn't worry too much if you can't get it all out. He definitely looks like he ran into something, not like you tried to dye him rainbow colors. Besides, it's a great conversation starter for the Color Me Rad run! (As for the woman with the pink poodle, while I think it's over the top, as long as she's using food coloring or unsweetened Kool-aid powder, that's usually safe. The Humane Society probably can't do much about it.) |
No help here just saying I am surprised at the anger directed towards this dyed poodle owner. As long as the dye is not harmful, what's the problem? At one of the Sheepiepalooza's I went to, there was a sheepdog with a bright pink mohawk. I don't think anyone thought that was abusive! |
Because their hair is so porous, I'm not surprised it's not coming out. You can try any of the good whitening shampoos, but my thoughts are that it will only fade a bit. It's just going to take time to be totally gone. On the positive - You get to celebrate the run every time you look at him! |
I think it's weird that everyone is freaking out about a poodle being pink. Sorry I am no help on this subject but I did dye lily cotton candy pink once, no one complained and everyone that saw her thought it was awesome. She got 100x's more attention than usual. It took about 5 months to fade out of her coat. |
Do not use a whitening shampoo! Because his coat is pourous right now it will more than likely suck up more of the blue/purple colour. Regular Dawn dish soap will take it right away. Then condition it and you will have a white sheepdog again Just a bit of further advice if any of you ever use a whitening shampoo and there is a blue or purple tinge left the Dawn dish soap will take that away as well. Hope this helps. |
Sooooo...what is wrong with a pinky-sheepy????? My granddoggy...PLUM......... Whoever comes to THE LOU for Nationals will probably see Plum, in person, at the Rescue Parade!!!!!! AND .,...I am sure she will have a fresh dye job, if my daughter has anything to say about it....... (But....I DO have to say..Plum is very noticeable.......)....sorry about Leonard..but he does look cute!!!!! |
I think Leonard looks cute with his colored fur. And we all do fun things in summer. Notify the race committee, maybe they can(should) use him in their marketing next year!!! |
At least it isn't grease like Sprocket gets if he goes under the "wrong"end of our fire engine. As we make and race motorbikes,we get a variety of folk round who have been known to leave various sploges on our sheepys!!x (it gradualy fades out with brushing and sometimes in very bad cases it use a very small amount of fairy wash up liquid on the end to remove grease.)x |
Thanks for all of the advice. I do use the purple shampoo on my own hair to keep the natural red tints at bay and it works very well- I have tried a pet version (tropiclean for white coats) to get rid of the pink. Dishsoap too! Now it is just a faint cotton candy colour on top of his head. I took a picture today and it isn't too noticeable : http://instagram.com/p/cMzJyGMhG2/ I think it will be a little pink for a while but should be good eventually. Thanks for the advice and very cute pictures Seems he isn't the only pink sheepie! |
I did the Color Run and maybbeeeee brought home a little color packet with me to share my fun with my pups!!! I loved it and thought my pups would too! SO wouldn't let me do it, however, NOW, I know how to get them a little colored! I won't rinse most off before the ride home, haha. I think he looks ADORABLE!! Different and hip!!! |
