It's being held in WI (we have members in both MN and WI), and it's about a 2.5 hour drive for me...I am pretty sure I'm the one who has to drive the furthest, as I'm 1.5 hours south of St Paul/ Mpls. But it's going to be great. We used to have a predominantly show-oriented club...but over the last several years, we've really expanded. Probably half our club are non-competition geared - with either rescues, or have dogs from breeders who just choose not to show. We've really worked on getting involvement in all the varied stuff that OES can do...and yes, I am a big part of encouraging all this!! We have a bunch of active therapy dogs, and have always had a small group who do herding. Several of us got together after the herding clinic we were in back in February. About 3 of them do classes with a lady in WI, and they thought she wold be agreeable to host an OES - only day. When approached - she was more than happy to do it.....We promoted it within our club....and we have 16 people, and 18 OES who are coming!!! Only 6 of the dogs have done any herding classes, so we have a bunch of NEWBIES!!! I hope to get pictures, and will share them after the weekend. The boys and I have a busy weekend, as this weekend also is a UKC show, quite near me. I was going to enter both days, but when we got this herding day set up, I switched to just one day. Bond is going to do conformation and rally (his debut), and Chewie is doing weight pull. So, they both need to be clean and sparkly...we will be stopping at The Paw for baths on our way home tomorrow night! |

That sounds like so much fun.. and it reminds me I need to look into joining an OES club. I think I'm 2 hours away from the closest one though. Good luck in your various competitions and I can't wait for pics.. I want to see what Fred and I will be getting into, lol. She has her instinct test later this month... here is a link to the place I chose, thanks for your advice: http://workngsd.com/ |
It sounds like a great group and a lot of fun! With 18 sheepies will be lots of crazy. |
Can't wait for stories and pictures!!! |
We had a great time out at Phyllis's place - she is a really nice lady, and set up really well for students of herding. We ended up with about 15 dogs - a couple couldn't make it. The new dogs got to work in the round pen with Phyllis. All but a couple of them were really interested in the sheep. 5 of us worked in the larger areas - with dogs who had some training and experience. Chewie and I - And Bond and I - I have many more pics to upload - I will try and add them tomorrow!!! |
Would have loved to have been there! Sounds like a great day. |
Sounds like a great day! Cindy |
We don't seem to have anything like that around here (Pluckley-Kent) When we have seen any sheep it seems like Sprocket would chase them so not sure he would be a good hearder though he is very good in our garden, herding up our son's dog and his brother when he visits.x |
I have the photos uploaded - I am going to make a separate post in "Pictures" for them. |
