We also bought our little sheep (even at a year he is only 58lbs) a top of the line set of Andis clippers and they arrived today! We had to clip him down because he was overheating inside the house with the air conditioning on (pretty sure he is naturally warmer than most doggies). Also nobody ever told Little Sheep that he is not a labrador- he sees water (or mud) and he is swimming in it. We figured not shaving him down would border on cruel as our summer temps are around 35-40 degrees Celsius with 99% humidity and we spend a lot of time outside in the summer camping and exploring. First attempt at dog clipping went much better than I had expected, perhaps that was because of the clippers and the amazing ceramic blades. I have always thought I disliked the idea of shaving Leonard but I believe he may actually be cuter now. I cut him with the 3/4 blade everywhere except his belly which I did with a 10 blade nice a short as he loves to lie on the cool tile in the summer and there isn't a huge risk for sun burn on his belly. The blades cut through his coat like a hot knife through butter. He was patient and sat on the patio table for a good hour (even with Ru sprinting around with a stick in his mouth). It is a little uneven in places but I will go over it all again and clean him up when I have more time on the weekend. He looks ridiculously cute- puppy cut was a good call as he still keeps most of his shaggy sheepie look. I don't think the right to the skin cut would suit him. I was also expecting that most of his black puppy coat would disappear with the cut but somehow he held on to a lot of it (although his back legs and eye patch are now 100% grey). He celebrated by bouncing (literally) around the yard- that cut must feel good. So happy (belated) birthday Leonard- aka little sheep-! Here is to a cool and comfortable summer! |

What a nice birthday(one already?!?!) and presents I like that Ru got the same, no sharing Congrats on the first cutting!! What a good boy Leonard was, even though RU was trying hard to get him into trouble Pictures of his summer cut??? |
Happy birthday!! One already, it goes so very fast. I agree with Brenda, pictures of the birthday boy in his new hairdo please!! |
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! |
I'm sure he feels much better! Congrats on the first shave down. When it goes easily, it is indeed like a hot knife through butter. |
Happy belated Birthday to Leonard!!! |
I missed this post also! HAPPY BELATED 1st BIRTHDAY Leonard! Cindy |
I am sorry it took me so long to post pictures but here are a few recent hair cut pics. Oh an a video taken immediately after his cut. Leonard loves his haircut and I honestly think he would have ended up with heat stroke without it. Also after our last camping trip it was easy to check for ticks and dry off after swimming. I do mourn the loss of his black puppy coat but I think his comfort is worth it Another first- Leonard and Ru have been left out (ie not confined to the kitchen) when we leave the house and they have been doing great so far. Have left them for up to 2 hours without incident. They seem calmer when I get home. Here is a pic of short haired Leonard waiting patiently for me to unlock the door. |
Happy Birthday Leonard. Great presents! I love the video. He does seem to like his short haircut. Carley's Mom |
Happy belated birthday Leonard! His haircut is cute. |
Leonard is adorable in his birthday cut, and he LOVES it from his antics in the video. He's a cutie. Charm did the same when she was clipped short for summer. Ran around like a crazed girl and still does when outside. I believe that they love being short and cool And I don't shudder when she swims, explores the latest hole or plays hard with friends Have a wonderfully fun and cool summer, little sheep |
The worst was when Leonard was completely bathed, blow dried and in full coat a few weeks before his clip. It had taken hours. When we got near the lake he was in it. Soaking, muddy and messy. Thank God for the puppy cut!!! |
