Looking to rehome my puppy!!!!!

We live in southern California. We have finally got our dream dog an oes. He is a beautiful almost 8 week old very smart and big boy! we have had him for only a couple of days.. and we loved him but unfortunately we have now been informed my husband only has a week and a half to relocate to new York. it would be unfair and selfish to take him with us. he would lack of space.. and I couldn't bare with that. I don't know what to do. It was so hard and we waited so long to get him and to mention how much we bought him for kill me... :headbang:..... my son is devastated.. snd the breeder wont take him back.. :|
Now we in search to rehome him. Any ideas any one?

Why would it be selfish and unfair to take him? Are there no sidewalks in New York to walk him? No parks where he could go play?

It's kind of selfish and unfair for you to get a puppy and because of something like relocation, to just get rid of him. Dogs are a life long commitment.

If you must get rid of him, I think I am the closest person to you on the forum. You can bring him right up to Washington state.
We lived in New York City with our sheepdog for 5 years, this was after her first 7 years of living on over an acre of land in New Jersey. Daily walks and trips to the park were a must, but she did fine. Granted, house training your pup in an apartment will be a little more challenging (think elevators and stairs before you can get outside) but it's certainly not impossible. If your puppy is 8 weeks old, then it will have nothing to compare living in NY to; so it wouldn't be cruel.

I'm surprised your breeder won't take him back; of course they can't refund you your money, but if he's not even 8 weeks (the earliest recommended age for a puppy to be sent to it's new family) then surely they still have litter mates, and possibly a waiting list of other people that can take your puppy. Unless you were hoping to recoup some of the money you spent on your pup from the breeder, or by selling him to anyone that was interested...? Still; If you really can't take him I'd say get in touch with a local rescue or talk to your breeder about them re-homing him, and accept that the money you paid for him is spent and gone.
Please . . . there is a lot more to New York than city - is it the city you have to go to? Thousands of people live in Ct, Long Island, or elsewhere . . . get on a train daily headed for the city (My brother does). I live in New York . . . in a village of 1500 people in the entire town, about 250 miles from the city. Are you sure it is NYC. Is it permanent?
Many dogs live and thrive in NYC! You will need to set up regular walking times. Apartment living.......Darcy has her sheepdog in an apartment.....elevators can be fun with puppy training, but it can be done. There are homes in NYC, plenty of walking times.

If you really think you need to give up the dog...........and the breeder won't take it back, contact Jane Dempsey at So. Cal OES Rescue.
I am sorry that you purchased this puppy without thinking of all the things that life would bring. I agree ...moving to NY is not the problem..There are many dogs in NY...Heck, Westminister is in NY..... :)

IF there is an underlaying reason for getting rid of this innocent pup, you need to be honest, if not with us...then with yourself.

Personally, I feel a puppy is FOREVER. Whatever comes my way, my OES will be by my side.

***I am really hoping you are not trying to tug on our heartstrings as all of us feel there is no better, than an OES....~~AND I really hope that you have not posted here in hopes of selling (or getting your money back)..as that is against the rules of this forum.

I am sure you did, in fact spend alot on your pup....BUT...it is worth every cent....The happiness and joy you will have with an OES in your life is PRICELESS~~~~~~~~

I find it very disturbing that you do not even mention your "much wanted dream dog" name????????

If you are really interested in getting this wonderful pup a FURever home, please contact rescue...BUT be aware, you will not get any money ....... :tea: :tea:
While we all have very strong feelings in regards to these dogs, I just want to point out that the OP may decide not to return if she feels we are being judgemental and harsh. Trust me, I get it, but regardless of the reason, the puppy may need a home, or even better the puppy's owner may need some help and encouragement in understanding that a dog, especially an oes, doesn't care if it lives in the country, a city, house or apartment, as long as it has it's family to love it and care for it.

Anyway, since you mention the breeder won't take him back and also that he wasn't 8 weeks old when you got him I'm assuming this is not a reputable breeder.
I'm not sure you understand that oes really don't care where you live, but if your mind is made up that you must rehome him then I do hope you'll find an experienced home for him.
Stacey's right.
The OP probably won't be back.
It's not our job to pass judgment but to offer help & guidance to people and/or pups. There may be underlying things going on that we don't know about. We dropped the ball on this one.

Sheepylover,
While our hope would be that you would do whatever it took to give your pup a loving home, we understand that sometimes there are circumstances beyond your control.
If you absolutely see no way of keeping your pup in NY, then I suggest contacting a local rescue. Preferably an OES rescue. As Susan said earlier, please contact Jane Dempsey at So. Cal OES Rescue.
Sorry you're facing such a hard decision.
To be clear, the OP did NOT say New York CITY. Which makes me wonder about several things...

Hopefully, they'll be back and shed some more light on this for us. While we can be a harsh bunch when we see things in a bad way and we who have gained the experience to see things others don't or can't, we can also be a very forgiving bunch, especially when a puppy is involved.

So, sheepylover, if you're reading this incognito, please come back and let us help you however we can. Whether it be with advice on living in tight confines with a Sheepie, which many do and have done, or helping you find the perfect second chance home. There is at least one member here who lives in a high-rise apartment building - talk about tight confines. Also, there are good rescue groups around if it come to that. Please just give us more to go on...

Sorry Op for the quick judgement. It is extremely hard for me to imagine re homing my OES for any reason. OES all are so extremely special.
I am serious about taking the pup. It will be on both of our dimes to transport the pup up here. I will foster/train that pup. There also is a great rescue up here.
Annastacia, So Cal to Washington state is at least a 15 hour drive, depending on specifics... While your offer is genuinely gracious, it might be a bit too much for the OP at this point. There are forum members in So Cal as well as rescue group(s) close to sheepylover.

I do realize that. I have taken tons of road trips up and down the west coast. (My mom is from Modesto/Sacramento, cal area) Last weekend I went to long beach, wa for pizza and ended up visiting the Goonies house in Astoria, Oregon and down to Cannon Beach for goonies rock and caves. (4-6 hours drive depending on traffic) I love a good road trip. Traveling is just in my blood.

It's 15-16 hrs from where I live to san fran. I live in northern WA. Like Port Angeles/Forks. They don't have to take it. It is just an option if they need it.
Thanks for understanding Annastacia. I know there are people like you and me that would drive across the country to help a Sheepie. I also know there are some who won't or can't travel for more than an hour. If it weren't for the iPad, my own wife would fall into that second list!

Hopefully we'll hear back soon...

If this poster feels she needs to rehome this young pup, it really doesn't matter the reason. The pup needs to be rehomed to a loving family who will keep her forever.

I recommend to the poster to contact the Old English Rescue group in California as soon as possible. I'm sure finding a foster for this young a pup won't be too diffficult and then they can move and their pup will be relocated.

Hope the poster returns and lets us know what is happening. Hate to find this pup on Craiglist or sold over the internet because the poster didn't know what else to do.
NYC is not a bad place for sheepies, since they love being the center of attention and they get a lot of that here. There are plenty of dog runs for them to run around and socialize with other dogs, as well as interesting things to smell on your daily walks. My Dylan has been on vacation to Maine and upstate NY but he just loves the constant stimulation and attention he gets at home in good ole Queens NY. :)
Did we ever find out what happened to the tiny 8 week old puppy? Do hope it had a happy ending. I am going over the "unread" posts on my laptop. xx :wag: :tea:
