Brick not 100% at the Shindig

His poops got loose the moment we got there.
He wouldn't touch his kibble at all. The only thing he ate all weekend was 2 biscuits on Friday evening, a hamburg on Friday afternoon, and a little food off my plate at the auction on Saturday. That's it.
He threw up early on Sunday morning and he was still runny this morning.

He was jumpy and nervous all weekend. Any loud, sharp noise would scare him.
He was clingy all weekend and really had no interest in the other dogs. In the lobby at the hotel, there were couches we sat on. Brick sat on the couch and draped himself over me the whole time. He never does that very much at home.

But he did sleep thru the night Sunday to Monday. And he traveled very well back home.

I fixed him a little rice and ground beef for dinner tonight and he scarfed it down, so that's good.

I think the stress of the trip really got to him. He's no spring chicken anymore.

Hopefully, he'll be back to himself in day or so. If not, he'll be off to to vet.

I am sure it was just the trip as you said, especially since he started the whole weekend that way. Plus the fact that he had an improved appetite once he was back in his normal environment is a very good sign.
He may not be a traveler then the first night combing session probably scared him. Your anxiety transferred to him. Change in water taste doesn't help though probably similar to home's. Yep, oldsters get a bit cranky when traveling.
That's why I think he's done with traveling. Which is sad.
He used to be such a great traveller.

It's hard for me to accept he's getting older. I cannot bring myself to calling him a senior. Doesn't seem possible.
Runny this morning but he scarfed down his beef & rice. And he's drinking normally.

And did I mention there was a fireworks display last night. He was so nervous; ran off to the basement and was shaking. Didn't want to go outside this morning. I had to carry him out.

Wasnt Brick sick at SheepiePalooza last year also?

Hope he's felling better soon.

bless him, sounds like he could have been a bit off in any event and the trip and the excitement, different surroundings, set him off even more. Hope he feels better later today, was going to say let the vet look at him, but I know you would anyway...xx
Lisa,
Yes he kinda was. He threw up 4 times from Thursday night into Friday morning at Sheepiepalooza 2012. But he kept eating and his poops were relatively normal.
And did I mention his runny poops appear mucous-y?
Don't know if that means anything.
Poor Brick. I hope he's feeling better soon.
Could he have eaten anything at the Shindig? Or maybe different water? My dogs are not the greatest travelers. They get all stressed being away from home - won't eat, loose poop, etc. They have gotten better and usually settle in after a day or so. Hope Brick is back to his regular old self soon.

I think the mucous could be a colitis type thing - nerves. Sending him hugs :ghug:
Diane,
I'm pretty sure he didn't get into anything. He was by my side almost the entire time. If he wasn't right with me, he was up in the room. And there was nothing in there for him to get into.
Maybe something at the farm?

And I too was thinking the mucous was nerves/anxiety related.
His stool was still soft and mucous-y this afternoon, so I took him to the vet with the sample.

They didn't find anything bad in it, so that's good. They suspect it's stress and nerves and anxiety from the trip. It's like colitis.

It should pass in a few days but to speed up the healing process, I have to feed him rice and either ground beef or chicken for a few days, give him an antibiotic for a few days (sulfasalazine, 500 mg), and give him a probiotic treatment (Proviable-KP) for the next few days.

Not so good news is that the vet heard a heart murmur when she's never heard one before. She says it's probably age related. :(
She characterized it as a level 2 on a scale from 0 to 6. She said it was on the left side.
I'll start a new thread for the murmur.
This morning was his first poop since he started the meds.
It was formed and looked normal, so that's a good sign.
