When we landed back in Manchester Paul dropped me off at home and went straight away to pick our girl up............when he got her out of the van, my heart sank. Bella was very dirty and her fur was knotted, she was limping, she had a cut above her eye, and two cuts on her top lip. Paul went gone absolutely mental at the owners! She also apparently had had diarrhea for "about 3 days". She was so sad, she didn't seem like my furry girl!! Needless to say the people who ran the kennels have had several VERY irate calls from myself, and I'm actually gonna go and confront them face to face. So, to cut a long story short(ish!!), much love, a vets trip for antibiotics and tummy upset meds, poached chicken and rice for a few days, and a new toy, and she's back to her beautiful, loving, happy self. Be rest assured she will NEVER be going into ANY kennels again. Sorry for my rant............I do tend to get very protective when it comes to my dog. I just hope I'm not over reacting.x |

I know exactly where yo are coming from!!We put our very first sheepy,Shep, in to kennels many moons ago,well,35,as we had to go to Irland for a fortnight and wern't able to take him The kennel has been recommended to us-the owners a loverly older couple who assured us that she would take Shep into her home in the evening as he was such a quite, loverble dog. We had given them a plentyfull suppy of his own food as had very sensitive tum. Well, when we rushed to collect him there was this awful lump of mattededness, that stunk to high heaven.limped and when we went into the enclosure to say hello he actually "went for" my husband. It wasn't untill we "chatted" to him for a while would he stop growling and come to "meet" us. The poor thing had been fed the kennels own stuff, had a fly ridden, matted bottom that was all bunged up etc etc. We were in tears, sadness and crossness. We refused to pay-had a minor court case which we won and the kennel was closed down. I vowed never to use a kennel again so if sheepys can't go or no family member can look after I don't go. It took a few days for Shep to settle down and he never wanted to leave my side after that.xx |
What a shame you had such a bad experience. Please don't view all kennels the same. I have been very fortunate the few times we have had to kennel our dogs. 2 very nice kennels in our area that do a really good job. Part of their regular routine is regular grooming & a bath before coming home. I always tell them NOT to do either of those for my dogs only because it is easier for me to deal with a bit smelly dog than one that has had the undercoat groomed out or bathed without brushing out 1st. I take their food portioned out in ziploc bags so they don't get too much or too little or a new kind of kibble as well as gallons of spring water so they are not drinking well water or water that is unfamiliar to their systems, all of which can add to stress diarrhea. And I specify that they only get exercised with each other & not with dogs they are not familiar with. |
i would have flipped did they say why the cuts.. this is why i have a house sitter that stays here in my house it comes out cheaper |
Oh My! Glad she is feeling better. The upset tummy I can understand - nerves and probably eating different food. But cuts and a limp? I'd be furious I know sometimes its necessary but if I can't take my dogs with me, I stay home. My friends use a sitter that comes into the house and sleeps there and it works out well for them. Glad bella is back to her regular self |
