Sheepdog Shindig- Grooming Seminars

I had a question about the grooming seminars. Is this something where we sit and watch a dog being worked on? Or is it instructional; if we bring a grooming table and tools, can we groom along with the instructor?

And along those lines; if it is "groom along" can you give us a brief idea of what's going to be covered? For example; if there's trimming I'd bring scissors, if it's summer cuts I'd bring clippers; that sort of thing.

Thanks- can't wait! :cheer:

I am open to do whatever everyone wants.

I will have demo dogs to show how to scissor butts, round out paws, strip neck coat, etc. I will also be bringing a dog of mine that if people want me to show them how to properly shave down an OES I will do that to....if nobody wants to see that then she will stay in coat :) Although I do not have a matted dog to use as an example maybe we can find a mat on someone and I can demonstrate how I remove it. I would also like to show how to properly line brush a dog. I have absolutely no problem with anyone setting up their own tables and maybe after I demonstrate how to do certain things I can walk around and give guidance for those who want it. And everyone remember I am around the entire week-end so if anyone wants some one-on-one time I am more than happy to help. I think it is a great idea to bring the grooming tools that you regularily use....I can make sure you have the right tools for the job and also make sure you are using them in the right areas.

I have always believed that it is great to watch someone else do it - this will give you an "idea" of how to tackle the job however the best way to learn, the way I learned is from yes, watching how its done but the best way to learn is to truly tackle it yourself and practice! It took me years to master grooming an OES, both pet clips and for show. That is truly the only way you will master the art of grooming an OES.
Glad you asked as I had questions too. My dog has some mild matting on his hips- feel free to brush him-LOL!
I wanted to ask about our own dogs sitting in the class since I am coming on my own, I need to be with him. I don't have a table so I can't groom along with the instructions. But do hope to get tons of information on grooming and I can't wait as well!

Wow I just want to fly in to see this demonstration.
If you are taking requests; I'd love to learn how to cut the hair above the eyes. I know lots of people use a top-knot, but we gave that up last year. I now struggle cutting that hair so they can see, but so it doesn't look awful and still has a shaggy look. Any help would be much appreciated!

I just did this with Virginia yesterday. I would be more than happy to show you how :)

THANKS!!! My girls are walking into walls, and I'm holding off doing it so that I can learn how to do it properly!
I'm bringing my grooming table along, so if someone would like to use it during the demos you are more than welcome to it.

Cindy
It would be really awesome if someone took video. PPPPPPPPPPlease.

I was just going to post the same thing. If somebody could film the demonstration that would be fantastic. Really wish we could be there but traveling from the Isle of Man is a bit too far

Have fun everybody x

Our groomer just did Charm yesterday, and while we love her eyes, the top doesn't look right. Will be most interested in any help too.
