Feeling a little annoyed

I've been away again for four days and the dogs were with the hubby again. I warned him that Buster is getting matted really easy and to check his thighs.

Well I get back today i was informed that Buster had been wadding in swamp water and he had been hosed down after.

Well I was petting Buster and doing the all over body rub that I normally do and there are massive wet mats in his thighs and groin that stink of swamp water and are wet near the skin. The skin is also red in places. I managed to get most out accept one in his groin. You just can't get to it easily when he is on his side or from behind and he is peeping because it probably sore skin underneath. Buster is not comfortable on his back for this kind of thing and is making it impossible for me to get at it as he keeps running away and whining. I will try again when he is sleepy.

It just annoys me because I warned the hubby and now this is the third time I have come back to something...... Monty with an infected bum, Monty with really bad mats and now this. Just can't understand why he is not more vigilant when I am away. :(

I wish I had an answer for you... I think we all go through it. :x Sorry about Buster's discomfort, and the extra work for you. :ghug:
I'm sorry you had to work through all those mats.... and poor baby for having to sit through all that .................but I'm NEVER surprised by the "lack of effort" made by our husbands. NEVER... EVER. I gave my husband one job when he traveled to Alaska from Texas with our dogs and cats... ONE JOB and it was the easiest... just make sure you get their eye boogers because they get them real bad. He was gone for a week. I pulled up my sheepdog's hair the second she arrived at the door and she had ONE eye booger in each eye.............that dragged all the way to her nose. I KID YOU NOT. Both him and my fil said they never saw it............yet claimed to snuggle with them every night. Mmm...hmm...
My husband not to bad most of the time but wil not get Sprocket to walk to heel,or even close. He is allowed to just wander on in front, stop for a snif whist hubby walks on and then Sprox runs to catch up. This is on the road with his flexi lead and halti. I sometimes wonder why I try to "heel" with him on his collar!! We don't get much traffic-3 cars in a row and it's called "rush hour".x
After countless dogs, DH is still clueless to their needs re: grooming, toe nails. However, he good with eye boogers! I'm not totally fair here.......he is the one who cleans poopy butts and trims the exit shoot....it I show him the problem.
I had a friend who claimed that all men had just one brain to pass around, and this kind of behavior meant that this was clearly not his week. :rimshot:

Luckily, my hubby understands the level of grooming, clipping, ear-plucking, etc that needs to go into caring for a sheepie. BUT . . . he also freely admits that he isn't comfortable doing all these things to Benson, so if I have to be away, whatever he does is the bare minimum.

I do have to ask - does your hubby see you do the grooming? Or is that something that happens in the other room while he's doing his own thing?

We're big movie watchers, so grooming for Benson happens whenever we pop in a DVD. She's in the middle of the daybed, with hubby sitting on one side and me on the other. I'm the one doing the work, but he does see exactly what goes into keeping her looking good. (And he really does understand the correlation between "wet" and "mats.")

So sorry you and Buster have to work through all those mats. Hopefully his skin irritations clear up quickly, for all of your sakes.
Thanks for the support, the comments made me smile and made me realize I am not alone.

He watches me groom the dogs every other day on the dog mat in the living room in front of the TV and I groom the dogs from half an hour to an hour each time.
I even say look, this his how you to the line grooming and demonstrate with using the spray, as the dog is relaxed lying on his side. Hubby says 'I know'.

But in reality I think what happens when I am away is that he gives a quick 5 minute dog standing brush on the areas he can see and not on armpits and thighs, oh and no conditioning spray. He doesn't feel around to find mats he lets his eyes do the mat spotting. I am going away for two weeks and I am dreading what I will come back to.

Fortunately we are on the same page for obedience training and walking.
Line brushing never penetrated DH's brain. If I was working over a dog I'd have the dog between us, he was better at talking to the dog and top brushing, nothing ever deep.

Hope Buster is OK, sores pop up so quickly. Sure don't want to have to clip those areas.
^^ That ALWAYS annoyed me too. I'd tell him what to do... and he's say "do you want me to brush or what?" He likes combing the hair that isn't matted. You know... go over what I already did.

 it's funny when you hear about it when it someone else but not when it's you.
I am a bloke. I take out the matts better then lori who is the groomer. Pluck ears do bum area wash said dogs trim nails and feet hair brush teeth. I would say Vance and David do the same as we'll so us men are not so rubbish also we do the donkey work as well. But ladies some men are not built for grooming and they have ear plugs as well :D . Most men are good at walking and getting the dog dirty as they like them to have fun and bring them back to the wife to clean up just like the kids :sidestep:

:D I wish Russ had your attention to detail.
Russ really is great with the training and is very kind with the dogs. He also does hospital visits with Buster so he is not all bad :hearts:
I do all of the grooming on Oscar since his last horrible bout of pancreatitis in 2011. I used to do most of it anyway, I just never clipped him down. I bathed, brushed, plucked ear hair, trimmed butt hair, trimmed hair between paw pads, etc. He used to go to a groomer every 6 - 8 weeks to be shaved down, but he got so sick in 2011 that I bought a good pair of clippers and now do it all myself.

Hubby doesn't even know where the grooming equipment IS. 8)

If I were you, I would do a clip down of all pertinent parts before your two week trip. I would shave all of the areas that have a tendency to mat. It might not solve all of the problems, but it might head off the worst ones.

Laurie and Oscar
Do have to say that the men aren't all that bad-we just like to pretend!!! Mine "never got the time" and "it's a womans job-like bathing the kids etc)!x
