Teenage stage is nothing compared to possible health risks due to early neutering. We've discussed it often enough here, but vets are still flying under the old flag of cut early. Scientific research is changing their opinion about early neutering but it's a big pendulum that has to swing from the far right of litter control (pun intended) to long term health concerns. Even early cut boys go thru the teenage crazies, but you can control them with good obedience training and above and beyond physical activities so their crazy brains are exhausted. A tired dog is a good dog. Expect the regression in training phase, nothing to do with hormones, just the dog testing boundaries. Keep taking obedience classes, refresher classes, do rally......anything to get them thru these brain dead months. Stick to you guns re: no neutering before age 1.........and of course make sure the potential Romeo is always secure and safe least a whiff of some hot bitch reaches his nose. |
We have never had any of our male sheepies "done"-had no problems with them that wasn't done to me being a bit lazy on training. A friend had her dog "done" and the poor thing is always being "hounded" (pun intended) by other dogs, bitches as well. They seem to want to "mount" him all the time.x |
