Ingredients 1lb chicken livers 3 cloves fresh garlic Organic whole flour or a combination of any of oat, brown rice, spelt or barley flours oatmeal optional: parsley, oregano, parmesan cheese Instructions Put liver and cloves in a pot and cover with water Bring to a boil then simmer for 30 mins until all pink is gone from the liver and you have a nice broth Whirl this mix in a food processor with a bit of the broth so you have a thick liquid Add flour until you have an easy-to-handle dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl Take small pieces of dough and roll into pencil thickness Roll each 'pencil' in oatmeal and cut into small pieces Alternatively instead of rolling in a pencil shape you can roll it out to the edges of cookie sheets and then score the dough (so it breaks into pieces after baking) and sprinkle with oats - then push gently into the dough Place dough on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and put into a cold oven Turn oven to 350 When it reaches 350 turn it down to 175 and leave treats in there until they're hard, aprox 2 hours. Then turn off the oven and leave until cool. Store treats in fridge (away from curious noses!) or freeze. Uncooked dough can also be frozen in small bags so you can make one tray at a time. |
