2 1/2 year old male. Surrendered because of food aggression. We have only seen aggression with bones and some possession with toys. Camp we sent him to said he attacked dogs playing with his sister. Not good but again possession. Mickey and my dog Chowder get along great see: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=40485. Today he attacked her TWICE! Unprovoked! And not just a bite. This morning he grabbed onto her mouth and wouldn't let go while she cried. Tonight she was able to pull away and he pounced on her to keep attacking. I repeat, UNPROVOKED! They are just laying around. First time he was licking her face, second time, just laying there in bed with me. Advice please! Help please! We love him but I cannot live not knowing when he will attack. |

Oh no, Arielle... I am sorry you are going through this. I am sure this isn't easy to deal with. I have no words of wisdom, but, wanted you to know that i am hoping this all works out OK. |
hmmm... on the bed with you. You are the possession now. Maybe?? others know better than I, just a wild guess. Laika will put Langley in his place, never hurts him. But he doesn't usually get on the bed if she is there first, unless I escort him up past her. He knows what pushes her buttons. He would never lay by her. But she will get up on the couch and lay by him no problem, funny enough he cannot handle the pressure and gets down. You will have to watch and see what pushes his buttons. Maybe don't let them lay together or let him lick her etc. |
Just a suggestion. Take him to the vet to see if he is ok. Possible ear infection? I had a foster that attacked me the 3rd day I had her and wound up in urgent care. Unprovoked. That was her freebe. She could could be very cuddly and loving than out of the blue, BOOM!!! When she went after Oliver, unprovoked, that was enough. She came after me again and I said ENOUGH!! When she was taken in to be put down, they noticed her ears. Rip Roaring ear infections in both ears. After treatment, she was fine and was adopted. My point is, it may be a health problem. |
I agree. Check for ear infection. My male started getting agresssive with me and my female sheepie. Even bit me when I tried to put the leash over his head. NOT like him...he also had a double ear infection and in fact MRSA in one ear. Looking at the prior videos, it looks like your two were getting along great. This sudden change could signal something medical is wrong. And my first thought is ears - which are very painful. Hope things work out. |
So sorry you are dealing with such a serous problem. I agree with the previous post. Do a vet check. I hope there is a medical issue that can be remedied. Good luck and keep us posted. |
Thanks everyone. He did come into the rescue with a raging ear infection. It had cleared up but we were warned it may come back. I will look into it asap! They have been fine ever since! I am much more conscious of their behaviors and he is more... on edge, I guess you can call it since that day. Chowder is a bit of a pain as she never understands the signals of I don't want to play anymore, BUT the two attacks were not while they were playing so I will look into the ears. ...fingers crossed... |
Good luck!!! Hope it's just an ear infection. Ramsey can be a pushy, bully dog, and attack his sister sometimes too, while it seems unprovoked, it always was something. While it's mostly vocal (knock on wood), growls/snarls, runs at her/stands over her. I learned to watch for the warning signs and manage it. It's mostly possession, over a treat or a toy, a missing treat that I didn't even know was there. I have established myself, with constant reminders, as the alpha, as soon as I stand up or say, Ramsey don't even think about it, it diffuses, but that was after learning to manage, watch for signs, etc. It makes her feel safer and him feel like he doesn't need to control the situation or not getting a treat isn't the end of the world. He thinks he's king dingaling around here, lol. Gotta keep him in his place. Lol. |
