If anyone in this area is interested in coming up, or down, here's a link to the premium list - http://okigo.org/AKC-premium-May2013.pdf This is for two day event. I have plans on going shopping for wood on Saturday and plan on going to this on Sunday. If anyone wants to meet me and Jen there and can only make it on Saturday, I'll reschedule the wood shopping trip - the wood ain't going anywhere! PM me and we'll go from there! Vance |

This is an actual sighthound lure coursing event - only sighthounds can participate. It is different than the CAT (Coursing Ability Test) that the non-sighthounds do. OK, not THAT different, it's still a similar sport. It's the original sport, that the CAT was developed from. The CAT is gentler curves, etc. and safe for all breeds. However - only clubs who can host lure coursing are allowed to host CAT's....so I bet they will know or even be hosting them sometime throughout the year. I would still go watch - I've watched Afghans, Greyhounds and Rhodesians run...it's truly beautiful! You are right - this is something Jen might be able to do - however the dogs are raring and jumping and straining to go at the start line...not sure if she could hold on to her until getting the "tally-ho" signal, when you can release your dog. Otherwise - all you do is stand there and watch them run, and then hook the collar and lead on them at the end and walk off the field. Let me dig up the CAT event schedule....see if there is one near you. I'm betting there will be, seeing you have a club that does trials. |
Darn, didn't see one (yet) being scheduled in OH. http://classic.akc.org/pdfs/events/cour ... Events.pdf Talk with them - tell them they need to host one!! They are VERY popular, and would be a good club event (and bet they would make good money for their club - ours always fill and have waiting lists!) |
We are going to run again May 5th!! Can't wait...and hope we don't have snow We did have one scheduled March 30th and they had to cancel - ground frozen and 2 feet of snow! Here are their runs from last fall. We drive 2 hours each way...and each dog runs in about a minute. Chewie's usually about 50-55 seconds for the 600 yds, Bond was a bit slower at 1:09 for his 1st time. It is totally addicting to watch - we spend the whole day The huntmaster is the guy by us, and give the tally-ho, the lure operator is on the tall ladder, so he can see the entire course and run the lure. The judge is the lady in the cowboy hat. Chewie - his 4 time, qualifying run Bond - his 1st time, qualifying run (bit of a coat tangle with the collar at the start! The wind wasn't helping either. The dogs must run "nekkid" for safety reasons) |
The above videos are what got me interested in this! I'll let you all know what I find out. Vance |
