That is what happened to Sprocket and myself when we went for our morning trot around the block, all nice and peaceful untill this dog came flying at us with it's lead dragging. Very lucky for us there were 2 workmen nearby and they ran to the rescue. No harm came to us except a shaking up-hurt my back and Sprocket was scared of every leaf on the way home. The dog changed it's attack from us to the men,one had the dog hanging from his leg so Sprocket and I made a hasty escape leaving them to get the police. The workmen knew where I came from to inform the police of my part in the attack. All I can say is that it was so lucky the workmen were there and that Sprocket has lots of fur. We needed a big pot ot tea when we got home. Checked Sprox over carefully, found no wounds.x |

Oh man, that is horrible!! I hope this person gets more than just a warning from the police. And hoping your rescuer is OK too. |
I've had the same thing happen with another sheepie I used to have and that was 20 years ago. To this day I am still nervous around that breed of dog even though I know that aggression is not necessarily true for every dog of that breed. |
OH MY!! So glad you and sprockets are ok. Ignorant dog owners. Was the dog a pure bread? I had the same thing happen when I was walking my first OES about 12 years ago. Her name was Isabelle and she was command trained. I could walk her without a leash although I always had one in my hand. She was just the smartest dog ever. She knew when it was 3:00 and time to get the kids off the bus. I miss her, anyway we were walking, crossing a driveway apron when a german shepherd came tearing down the drive way. Isabelle had just been shaved the day before. (first OES and wasn't very versed on brushing like I am now). This shepherd flipped Isabelle and was about to rip her throat out when I kick him square in the head. He was about to go after me when the owner came out of the house. This all happened as we were crossing their driveway. The attack was so vicious the shepherd owner put her dog down. I felt terrible but the owner said, what if I had a toddler and not a dog? She was a good owner, but I think I would have tried classes or something. Still feel bad about that dog. |
It was a pit bull type dog. Have never seen it around our village before. The workmen called round, one had a leg wound and the other a hand wound-would need stiches but the hospital like to keep dog bites open because of stitching in any infection. The dog was taken by the police along with the owner apparantly. I don't really want to know what happened to it but must have been put down I would think,as you say, what if it had been a child? My mum-in-law had an attack when walking their goldy years ago, their dog was ok,mum wasn't-had bad bites that wouldn't heal of ages and as she fell got a face bite and broke her hip.x Sprocket has been a bit spoilt since-dad let him lay on us on sofa last night. He is right as rain (which it is doing at the mo so haven't gone out for a walk yet ) |
So glad that you and Sprocket are okay Sorry the workers were injured though. Hope their wounds heal nicely. How frightening! If that had happened to me, I would have needed something stronger than tea |
You should chase up on this and find out what has happened, don't assume all is okay now. You read time and time again about troublesome out of control dogs and being taken to the police time and time again, once is enough. |
So scary. I am on high alert when I walk both mine. People are clueless the lady up the road has a rottie and she lets it out in the yard free. Already ran down to my dogs in their FENCED yard. It seems young and playful. But I don't walk up that way. Hard with two dogs or any dog when it is on leash and the other isn't. I hope they fence their yard the house was just built over the year. I had two boxer come into my yard at my old place and within seconds one had Langley down and ripping at his throat, lucky it was winter and he had his thick mane. That dog wasn't big either half his size so that was a vicious dog. I called animal control and they knew of it and it was very dog aggressive. Still shudder to think of that day. But I still think dogs are dogs o matter the breed. If I see any dog loose it puts me on edge. Even tiny wee ones. Who's to say one of mine won't grab it and break it's neck. |
Sort of the same thing happen to us. Lucky Sherwood was around and saved Georgi. He was playing with another lab and this guys dog came out of his car in the car park into the park and went for Georgi and she hid behind me. Sherwood saw what was going on and went for the staff. The owner came out of his BMW with no soding lead never said sorry or sod all . That when I pinned him up and sort of hit him a few times. Gave him my name and address and if he wanted to call the police I had no issues with this. What I can gather this has happen a few times with this bloke and his dog. Have not seen him in the park again |
