Ouch!!!!!

So, has anyone else get hurt playing with their dog like I did today? I was playing with a stuffed toy with Angus and got my finger caught in the toy, which was in his mouth!!! He bit down on it and I have a nice hole in my finger! It's on the inside of my knuckle (make sense?) and put a nice hole in the soft area. Wow did that hurt and scared me because of the hole. Put some bacitracin on it right away and it stopped bleeding. Last inspection looks like it is sealing together. Ugh....its was not his fault at all, just the wrong place for my finger to be at the time!!!! I'm hoping it heals on its own and not have to go get a stitch in there. Wish me luck!!!!!

poor you, they do play rough. Summer plays tug and I have to let go she can actually pull me off a chair, and I weigh about 9 and a bit stone! :wag:
Yes those unexpected chomps are the worst! I've not had one that's broken skin yet luckily. I bought a longer tuggy toy to try and prevent ouchies, stuffies don't last 2 seconds in tuggy here, my boy pulls hard, on a smooth floor he can easily pull me along and I'm over 10stone (65 kilos) :D
Oh yeah. Probably why I wasn't upset that the last few came with no play desire, not tugs. Still I'd get nailed just playing around with them. Hopefully the wound will heal quickly.
Let's see - Becky was spinning and barking with excitement as I opened a door and one of my fingers apparently accidentally got in the way of her yapping. Then Luna came running inside and somehow failed to see that I was in her path and almost took me out. And that was just YESTERDAY's battle damage. Two of them have taken me out while running agility, my rescue dog once horse-kicked me in the eye when I was trying to trim one of her rear pads, and Sybil or Macy both sent my flying once when I just standing in the middle of the back yard watching them run around. But the one that hurt the most and had the longest reminder was when Luna broke my nose while unexpectedly exiting the bath tub mid-bath a year ago. She just sort of elevated with all four feet and then she was gone, leaving me holding my nose which unfortunately was in the path of her flight plan.

Yeah, I feel your pain :-)

Kristine
I've lost count of the accidental injuries I've endured from my dogs..yes the hand bite is painful. Just the other day Violet stepped on my bare foot and her toes spread out between my toes and boy did that hurt from her nails. I found out how really sensitive the skin is between your toes, yikes. Shortly after we rescued Asia, she was a pup of 8 mts, she robustly campe up to kiss me and I ended up with 2 black eyes. I think the pictures are somewhere in my photos on this sight. Anyway reading Kristine's response brought up all these wonderful, not, memories.

I hope your finger feels better soon.
I guess I forgot all the times Pooh had knocked me flat on my face. One I was outside holding him on his leash and had a glass of wine in my hand (ok..ok...it was after his walk!) and before I knew it I was on the ground but never dropped a drop of wine!!! He came running at me once while we were playing catch and both of us were going for the ball he ran into me, knocked me down and he got knocked down, too. That one was comical. Both Pooh and Angus have a way of "pinching" me with their teeth and that leaves bruses. Ah, the memories..........but love them!
I have a couple scars...mild Chewie gets really excited with agility and a couple other sports!
My last one that only resulted in a bruise on my palm was a few weeks ago. I was at the Paw before teaching class, letting the hairy boys run - and they really, really race. I was bent over to pick up a poop.... and yep - they were facing each other and running...smack into me. I went flying - and they blew me right out of one of my tennis shoes! Thank goodness it was on the deluxe rubber padded astroturf. A nice big bruise on my palm, otherwise OK. Poop bag safe too. :)
I just counted, 31 open wounds on my hands and arms. Between scratching and accidental nips (all while playing). She hasn't got a mean or aggressive bone anywhere.

Arthritic hands complain about tug-o-war (Chloie's favorite now) but I try, and every time she goes for a better grasp, I yell, she apologizes, I bleed, she gives love (for 20-30 seconds . . . then it is time to play again). I would love to find out how much force she has when pulling, I am not little and this 60 lbs dog drags me all over. I was interested to see that pulling contests exist for dogs (seen them for tractors).

I am constantly amazed at the speed and agility she has when playing, but she does get carried away sometimes, and rough houses with a little too much energy, but one of us is learning (or the other of us is getting faster).

It takes time.
Been there.

The ones that come to mind are bruised ribs from falling backyard over a sheepie, got hit from behind, right at the knees and ended up with bloodied knees and scraped hands, a sprained pinkie, not even sure how that one happened. Taken out at agility too many times to count.

Scrapes, scratches, bruises, puncture wounds are all part and parcel of having a rambunctious dog.

All part of the love.
Archie folded my knee the wrong way resulting in having 1/4 of the cartaledge in my knee removed
Owwwww you guys had me wincing at these post.

Kristine, I feel for you as while I didn't have my nose broken, years ago I was laying on the grass and called Blue over and he raced full speed toward me...yikes! He wasn't slowing down. Crack! right into my nose! Owwww!

The only other time I've had an injury (you realize now saying that I've jinxed myself) is years ago when I was laying prone on the couch with my feet elevated on a pillow. Panda came and lay next to me and placed his head on the pillow. Now for years I always called his name first if he was laying beside me before I moved as due to his background if he awoke suddenly he would bite pillows or gnash his teeth in the air. Then he would realize where he was and become the sweet dog he was meant to be.
I neglected to call his name when I moved my feet... just a touch... and owwwww you guessed it he awoke and bite the pillow but my foot was on it!! He immediately released when he saw it was me but the damage was done. I hopped off, crying, holding the fleshy part of underneath my foot. Gawd! did it hurt! I didn't realize a dog bite can hurt so much. I didn't want to go to the hospital to have stitches as that would mean it would be documented and I knew this was an accident. Thankfully no one came over during those first few mins as my living room, kitchen and bathroom resembled a murder scene while I was hobbling to first find a towel then bandages. Even now...after 9 years of him living with me....I never forget to call his name if he's asleep and I have to move. That, and I bought him his own couch so he doesn't fall asleep where I'm sitting.
