You will feel so good knowing that your team is the reason for a smile, a laugh, a gentle pat..knowing that, even for 5 minutes, the clients will forget they are sick. Therapy Dog work is so rewarding. Do you know where you are going to work?
We are very lucky, there is a nursing home a few blocks away from where we live. I have been in touch with them and all that needs to happen next is for me to pass my police check, which should not be a problem given that I have never even had so much as a parking ticket. We will be tag teaming with Wally, the spaniel. Wally and Virginia know each other from the dog park and Wally has been at our house several times (he is fantastic for finding wayward kibble!) so we feel very lucky to be with a dog we know who has already been doing visits and who we know gets along well with Virginia.

It is the folks and their sheepies on this forum who inspired us to do this, so thank you for that!
Oh Virginia you look so beautiful :hearts: :hearts:

I am so proud of you both!

I wish SOOOOOO much that I could snap my fingers and have you and your scissors here to make her neat and tidy for her first visit. Hard to believe that a year ago she was shaved! It grows so fast. She is such a beautiful girl, I am so grateful to have her. I can only hope that her daughters grow up to be as sweet and loving as Virginia. Right now Gracie is going for the Most Mischievous award, maybe it takes time to get to the Most Sweet level...
Beautiful Virginia :hearts: You will be the perfect therapy dog, you could melt anyone's heart and bring a smile. Will look forward to seeing pictures of you at work.

She only wore it for giggles when we first walked in. David spent FORTY EUROS on that bow in a trendy dog shop in Budapest. Forty euros for some tulle and a couple of fake pearls.

Hmmm. I need to open up a "trendy" dog shop in Canada. I am sure a certain smitten daddy will never notice that he is overpaying.

I thought the bow was bit over the top, but she looks so cute in it I wasn't going to say anything. :hearts:
But the price - OMG!!! :plead:
She better wear it, and wear it often to get your money's worth out of it!!
We have an appointment tomorrow with the volunteer coordinator at the nursing home in our neighbourhood. I have to get a TB test done! Ouch!!

Oh, they are nothing. I have gotten one every year for over 25 yrs now!
Have fun :)
I am so proud of Virginia! We went for an appointment, an interview really, with the volunteer coordinator at the nursing home a few blocks away. She was running a bit late and asked us to wait in the reception area. Virginia sat patiently, me less so, when suddenly alarms went off and the area became very busy. In all of the controlled chaos (wow, staff in this place were quick, calm and efficient I was very impressed), Virginia didn't bat an eye. When it was all over and we were back waiting, she was the centre of attention. She acts like the Queen, so calm, like she was 'to the manor born' so to speak. Bum wiggling, accepting all the love she was offered, not at all phased by the alarm, the wheelchairs, the scurrying around. I just completely love this dog, she is so special. People recognized her, staff and residents alike, from seeing her walk around the neighbourhood. I felt like I was the lady in waiting to royalty. I felt unworthy!
You go girl Virginia :cheer: :cheer: You will be a great therapy dog! With that face everyone will love you! Congratulations! And to Mom too. Virginia couldn't have done it without you! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Good girl Virginia! :aww:

Yes, you will quickly get acclimated Kim, to your role...driver, carrier of supplies...
It's all about the dogs.

I watched a documentary on dogs last week that mentioned that dogs use humans as tools to get what the dogs want. I very much feel like Virginia's attendant, her humble servant. I am once again reminded that no matter what the laws say, I do not own my dogs, they own me!
Does Virginia still do therapy dog work? xx

Sadly, Virginia passed on December 8, 2017.
Oh, I am so sorry. I have been going through "unread posts", am in 2003 now, that is where I saw the email saying she had passed her "test". xx
She did therapy dog work up to a few months before she died, at the nursing home a few blocks from our house. She did really well with residents with dementia. She was such a calm girl and just had a knack for finding people who needed extra snuggles. I love her, there will never be another like her.
Yes, I know what you mean- they are so special. xx
