Experience getting/importing a pup from Canada?
I overheard part of a conversation recently at a dog show and wondered which person was correct. One said there were no problems getting a pup from Canada to the US the other side debated that laws had changed, it was more restrictive and the pup may be held up? - not sure exactly what was meant there (confined?), but I am curious. Can anyone share their recent experiences and explain? I looked up the regs and it states pups under 3 months must be confined until and then 30 days after receiving Rabies. Pups over 3 months must have a Rabies certificate over 30 days or will be "confined." Never heard of that before and just curious. Thanks. |

| I should have posted this in another thread because I am not getting a puppy now. I am curious about this because I wonder if these regs are what is spurring the bills for Rabies at 3 months of age being proposed across the US and I don't understand how this can be a good thing for a pup under 3 months if it did have to be "confined" per the reg. here is the regulation: http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/dogs.html |
| I sent a pup to Mississippi a few months ago and there were no issues whatseover, nor has there ever been with any dogs I have sent to the US. I just read the link you provided and that has been there for ages however I have never had that happen with any pup I have sent to the US, and I have sent quite a few there. I remember years ago asking about what you read and the confinement is to your home if anyone ever pursued this, which like I said, I have sent many pups to the US over the years and there has never been an issue. I am thinking now perhaps that is because I am close to the US border and I usually fly my dogs out of Buffalo, NY, where all the airline wants to see is a vet certificate. Hmmmm.....although now thinking about it I have also flown pups to the US from Toronto and never had an issue. |

| Thanks Amber and Stacey. It makes sense what I heard then. I would guess it has nothing to do with these new rabies bill proposals for 3 month old pups then either. |
| Amber I know we have a few of yours in the uk. Did the owners come to Canada to collect the pup ? |
