Limping on New Floors

So we spent a small fortune putting in new wood floors after flooding by Sandy Storm in october. Now, my older male, Bowie, is having trouble getting up from a lying position. His feet can't grip the floor and when he finally gets up, he has a slight limp...He is turning 7 at the end of the year. Hips have been checked, no problem. I looked into his paw pads, nothing. Flexed his foot a bit and nothing. No sign of pain. Is it the floors?

My older OES always had this problem on floors. I eventually discovered that he had arthritis and when it was finally his time, we discovered he also had almost complete hip dysplasia. I used throw rugs around. That helped him immensely. He eventually learned to lay down on or near one so he had it close to help him get up. He's also probably not used to it so it may improve with time, but I would try throw rugs.
When we changed out the tile both Jack and MO had a horrible time. We threw down many throw rugs. The feet just can't "grip" the slippery surface. You can try boots or socks with grippers, neither of mine thought that was acceptable, in fact Jack fell more with boots. Both dogs had arthritis in hips, spine (and MO in a paw). Keep up with the nails.
My 12 year old is starting to get slow getting up on bare floors some times and she was rated OFA good. Of course, that was 7 years ago. When were his hips checked? If a while ago he could since have developed arthritis, and then there's always arthritis of the spine as Susan mentioned, very common in the breed; it's not all hips. Dogs age at different rates, and if he's a big OES even seven can be pretty senior.

The limping makes me wonder if he perhaps did something to one of his knees, however.

I LOVE wood floors, but they do seem to be the hardest on dogs as they age or if they're injured.

He did fine this morning. I did put some rubber type mats around but of course he lies next to it instead of on it

I was thinking knee too. Would the limping come and go? And its not really a limp per say. But you can tell he is favoring it. Not all the time. Just when he first gets up from the floor...Maybe a visit to the vet is in order? He's only 7. I'm not ready for him to act old yet
After José had his TPLO surgery for a completely torn ACL, the specialist told us he never recommened tile or wood floors, especially for bigger breeds. He told us to always have something for traction on the floors for them. I had really nice tile floors in my kennel & they have since been covered with commercial grade carpet runners.
