Let's play a Game: Getting to know You

Just for something new and hopefully a fun way to get to know each other.

Let's name something about ourselves that you don't think most people would suspect here about ya. Whether it be that you once ran the marine marathon, were abducted by aliens, can roll your tongue, or have grandchildren. :)

For me, I think some of you might know through instant messenger, but I was in the Air Force for 4 years at the Pentagon doing Military Intelligence.

Your turn :D

Im a shoe-aholic... :D
lol, does your furbaby have a pair too? 8)
Hey what's wrong with the dogs having shoes, Remy has 3 pairs.

About me: Married the roomate of a guy I was in love with but didn't work out...in the end it worked out perfect for me.

Huge romantic.
Darcy, wouldn't it be great if you and I could take Panda and Bailey to DSW? They could run up and down the aisles and chew on the slippers while we shop for shoes. It would be so cool...

I'm a rescue certified scuba diver with a bad travel addiction. Tough hobby for a girl who lives in the desert!
I love shoes too (and clothes--been called a label #$% by everyone I know)...been 'banned' from shopping by my fiance...
I've run a half marathon before and would love to do others--why do most happen to be in the summer though! (so hot)
I can roll my tongue (my brother can't)
I have an obsession about grammar (especially when people use the apostrophe s incorrectly)
I love the beach
My fiance and I have been dating for 6 years--he lived above me freshman year of college--but he was too skinny for me--so I waited until he filled out through beer...
I used to storm chase in college. My major in college was operational meteorology, and I wanted to work for the National Hurricane Center. I would LOVE to join the AF Reserve and be part of the Hurricane Hunters group at Keesler. The dynamics of weather just fascinates me. :)
Ok... This is personal and I know nobody knows this:
I am on my third marriage. I got married the first time at 20, it was a rebound relationship. I was divorced at 21. I met my second husband, Todd, at 21. Married him when I was 23. Ryan was born when I was 24. I filed for divorce when I was 27. It wasn't granted until I was 29, Lazy Lawyer!! Todd couldn't deal with Ryan's developmental problems and whole bunch of other problems.
I met Billy (my current husband about 6 mos after I filed for Divorce from Ryan's Dad.) We have been together ever since and finally tied the knot in April of 2004 after living together for 3 1/2 years.
OK the secret is out!!
Also I used to compete in Horse Shows and starting riding when I was 2 yrs old. ( Never owned a horse )

Elissa
Once upon a time I worked for the Government. In that role... oh wait, brb. There's someone at the door. Looks like two guys, actually.

OH my! One of them has a g

I sit on my backside and play with websites all day.
This is so interesting!! Great post a I loved hearing about you guys!

About me:

I'm a professional magician, a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Vancouver Magic Circle and the Backstage Club. I travel to conventions all over the US and once held the title of the Worlds Funniest Magicians. (Explains my lame humor)
You all already know FAR too much about me as it is!
 Ron- you crack me up!

I have a photo of President G. W. Bush and my cousin in my living room (he's a marine and guarded Marine One).... and I really don't care for President Bush

I'm addicted to japanese animation (anime) and video games- it's my husbands fault, he got me started!

Jane Austen is my favorite author, "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite novel.
HEHEHEHE, this is fun...........................

I am a Clown (REALLY)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do silent Christian Clowning and teach clowning. Primarily I do one or two seminars for churches that want to start a Clown Ministry. Once, two people who I taught Clowning to got married and asked me to be their Maid of honor, IN CLOWN WHITE AND COSTUME!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANd, I'm captain of our local ambulance squad (but I don't dress like a clown for that!!)
Daisie: Me too! I think I got the better of the two.

I work for Nextel. Think I remember someone saying something about those darned Nextel's the other day.
Iriskmj wrote:

:Warning!!! Old Joke !!! Warning!!!:
I was on safari a few years ago, and one day very early in the morning, I awoke and shot a rhinocerous! In my pajamas!

Sue...DSW here we come!!! I also crave the smell of Pinesol....and after six years of marriage and two years of dating, my husband in his fireman outfit still turn me to jelly :D
Sorry, I've been away, down in Darcy's country.......but it was tooo smoky from forest and grass fires, cough, cough!

Darcy: I hate shoes! Probably because I've had trouble getting proper fit all my life. Weird feet and now really big weird feet.

Gail: are you familiar with http://www.CoCoRaHS.org ?? I too am a "weather junkie". Storm chaser sounds great but flying in hurricane spotter aircraft is not something for someone who gets motion sick on the penny pony in front of the grocery store (ooops, that showed my age)
I hesitate to let you in on even more of my goofy quirks but you've all inspired me to share: ;)

I, too, am a shoes and clothes freak. I have 4 closets full of clothes-- 2 of them walk ins. I seldom wear anything more than once, at least anything I go out in. I have over 400 pairs of shoes but I haven't done a real count for awhile so it could very well be 500 by now. I also have huge feet size 11s, but I'm 6 feet tall so they don't look ridiculous for my size.

James and I both run our cars with the BMW driving/racing club. I drive a Mini Cooper S and he drives a BMW M3. Right now, we can't do time trials because of insurance rules but once I finish paying mine off, I'm going to gut it and make it into a real race car. I can't wait. Right now we do "driving schools" which are designed to stay in the rules of insurance. It pretty much means we do the same thing as racing except there's no winner and no timing. It's more about learning to push your car to its limits and learn how to control it at high speeds and extreme situations, like hairpin turns and jumps. It's so much fun!

Lastly, I play poker everyday-- either online or at the casino. Although that makes me sound like I have a gambling problem, I swear I don't! I almost never lose money anymore and I'm way up for the year. I consider any money lost in the past an investment to learning. It's a fun hobby for both James and I and I'm really working to become really good and would love to go pro. There needs to be more women playing on tv! Not only that, it would sure beat a desk job!

Jill
I laugh at the face of danger...haaaa haaaa.

Okay well most of the time, I conquer my fear of failure syndrome, and just try new stuff all the time...what's the worse thing that can happen? That I fail...but if I don't try I will fail anyhow. Then I may look back some day and regret that I didn't do it.

My mom is very shy and quiet, while I, her daughter, am very outgoing..how'd that happen? I think my mom wistfully talked about all the things she wished she had done when she was younger. Her dream was always to go skydiving and she never found the courage, she also wanted to seek her dream job as a travel agent, but held back from doing so. Granted it was tough for her as she raised three kids on her own. I've also been a single mom but had more opportunities than she had

Ever since I came to this realization at age 16, which coincided with the birth of my oldest son, that life is too short.....I join clubs, I belong to all sorts... The Vancouver Magic Circle, The International Brotherhood of Magicians, My Fiero Club, Gardening club, World Clown Association, Numerous animal groups, I also sat on the board of directors for children with disabilities. I take lots of classes too..educational and fun ones too ...I can make sushi!!

It depends on my schedule and other priorities in life as to what I'm involved with..like the time I took up piano so I could help one of my kids with his lessons. I had the Older Beginners Piano Book and admonished the teacher and said..yuck I dislike that title. She used whiteout and printed the Mature Beginner.

I recieved my Level11 hockey coaching certificate as the community center where I worked at the time offered it free for staff..ha I did it on figure skates! I took karate (full contact )lessons when my older son whom is shy and hesitated about taking the course, so I signed up with him. I strutted in...and limped out. Gawd I don't remember it being that hard when i was 15 and first took up the sport.

I even got dressed up in one of those silly Sumo wrestlers outfits at a fair and landed on my back unable to get up as if I was a turtle. Those suits must weigh at least 200 pounds and a have a video to remind me of my silly adventure.

So that's me..forever taking courses and learning stuff..how to install toilets or sinks even interest me. I don't sweat the small stuff and laugh at myself all the time. I get a kick, when people seem rather bemused and suprised and say "you do that?" I know they, then realize if I can do it...anyone can. I love to laugh at myself and will be the first to admit that I'm not an expert but it's fun just to say you've at least tried it.

I don't want to dare mention my age..but believe me I'm not a spring chicken. My next dream is I'm going skydiving...soon as I have the extra cash. I'm doing it for me and my mom.

Marianne and the boys

Ohhh I love shoes too!!
Okay, here goes.....

I played soccer on the boy's team in high school because we didn't have a girl's team.

I am a former Beauty Queen. Which stemmed from my high school guidance counselor telling me I needed more "feminine" activities on my college applications. He said just competing would be enough but I had to go and win. I threatened to beat someone up from the back of a convertible during a parade and dropped the crown when passing on my title.

I am a fulltime 9-1-1 dispatcher and former EMT (still carry the cert just don't get dirty anymore  ). I have made it from Harrisburg PA to New York City in 93 minutes, in an ambulance. Yes it's gross, no it's not that exciting and yes people do call and ask if this is 9-1-1.

In my spare time I own a sound company. In a nutshell, we put up the speakers when bands play. We've done Collective Soul, The Alarm, Kix, George Clinton and Method Man. Yes it's exciting, yes I can go backstage and no it's nowhere nearly as glamorous as it's supposed to be.

As another part of my sound company, I deejay. I do some parties but the best thing I do is music for live sporting events. I am the music director for the minor league soccer team in town. That is super fun and I went to college for Broadcasting so I should use that degree for something!

I've also done music/sound for a Monster Truck Rally and they told me I was too loud!

I had my own tv show in college and have done local radio and tv commercials.

I teach swing (dancing that is  ) and ballet .

My favorite movie is Monty Python-Holy Grail.

I've met the president. My husband's band played a couple of his campaign stops and the swing dancers were part of the package. Unfortunately the pictures were lost.

I've been to Europe twice and have lived on both coasts of the US.

I left out all the nerdy stuff, my husband's nickname for me is DM (Dungeon Master). Just because I like Lord of the Rings does not make me a dork!
I've revealed too much! Must go now!

P.S. I love shoes too!
Mandy, were you the only person to show up for the Kix show?

ButtersStotch--My fiance races BMWs too! He hasn't done it for a while (med school seems to take up quite a bit of his time! )
And I'm jealous of your shoe collection and your many walk-in closets. My fiance has to use the closet in the guest bedroom because I have taken over our entire walk in (and I use the other guest bedroom for overflow!)
barney1 wrote:

Mine too. He has no closet! He just gets the big armoire!
Hi!! I'm a stay at home mom with a serious weakness for pets. I've got my eye on a black hamster right now that my son has been begging for. I've always wanted a pot-belly pig. Husband definately does not!!
I was a dispatcher for the University police all through college (very boring campus!).
I competed in dance back in high school (when I could actually be seen in public in a leotard).
I am planning to get certified to do home daycare. I can't seem to let go of those babies!!
I am ashamed to admit I'm a video game junkie. I've had to put a time limit rule on games in the house mainly due to mommy's addiction. The kids get scared when they see me pick up a game controller!
I guess that's about it.
Oh, and I've also become very addicted to this forum!!!!!

Karen
Maxmm,
I agree, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the funniest movie of all time. I'm dying to go to NY and see the new play, Spamalot. I was in NY a few weeks ago and I couldn't even get a single ticket, very disappointed!
Jill, believe it or not the Kix show was sold out, for 2 nights straight!!!! Oh yeah, the lead singer lives around here now, maybe that was it. Could also be directly corrolated to the number of mullets in attendance. (A frighteningly large amount!)

Bailey's Mom, we're planning to go see Spamalot this summer. My dance teacher has some connection for tickets. So with any luck......I'm so excited about it too but I heared that Hank Azaria isn't there every night. Have to check into that.

Cool! I'd love to have a classic Mini as my daily driver but I have limited skill in repairing and maintaining. Parts are expensive to get here too. You should post a picture of it. I'd love to see it!

Jill
Hi,

I love this post, getting to know you all a bit better and finding out bits of your lives is a lot of fun! Seems we all have something in common besides sheepies, I think our personalities match theirs perfectly!!

Marianne and the boys
A Mini and an MG! You guys are making me sad that I sold my Miata.
Prior to having to part with four of my five OES, I was a "pooper scooper" for the past 20 years or so.

In between collections, I'd find myself doing the usual "stay at home" mom type things, such as letting them in and out (wouldn't want an empty yard at "scooper time", watering, feeding, bathing, giving shots, tending puppies, etc....Oh, I almost forget the family chores.

One son, grown, married and has 3 sons. The youngest with Tars Syndrome. Three wonderful grandsons!!!

I hate shoes, but, if you shoe lovin', clothes lovin' folks ever decide to part with any of your excess, I'd be happy to take them off your hands. I love bargains! I also donate things to a couple of local charities that are in desperate need around here when I have it. Served as a board member of the Community/Senior Center.

My husband also had to medically retire this past Jan., which was the reason for giving up my dogs. Couldn't take care of them properly. They're in fantastic new homes now but, we have our 14 1/2 year old Shadow, whom is in ill health at the time. Seems that Rainbow is drawing nearer every day.

I'm addicted to this site, and owe those on here a great deal for their help in finding homes for my dogs, and for moral support!!!! A great group of people!!!!! Thanks for letting me be a part of it. :D :D :D

I haven't seen that site before...pretty neat. Doesn't look like it's in my area yet. I do something very similar with the NWS. I interned with them one summer - wish I could work there! That was my plan before kiddos came into the picture. I was in AFROTC, was planning on joining the AF, retiring after my 20 years, and going to work for a weather facility. Then, I had my babies, and I just couldn't imagine leaving them for basic training and tech school!
Well, I woke up this morning to serious smokey smells....The fires are still far away...I think they're heading north and we live downtown Phx..but the smell and the haze, yuk.....

Sheepieboss, shame on you for not getting ahold of me and Sue (Baileys mom), I would have loved to meet you...next time youre in town, you really should give us a call!!!
ButtersStotch you are quick .
You viewed the picture before i could tell you it was there.
Glad you like my mini .The photo is actually one that won a place in this years mini calender in Britain.

Julianne
I was surprised how fast you put it up too! Now I'll post a couple of mine!

Jill
I do motorycle rallies, in the process of buying a trike. I paint and and write stories about fairies send them to my grandaughter as she lives in ireland, rosanna once said you wont forget me will you. This shows her Icould never forget her she keeps them in a folder. We do motorcyle runs and raise money for pet shelters. OUr motorycle club at our weekend rally raised £2,900 for the air ambulance. luv pepe and dougal
That's fantastic Pepe! I enjoyed the bit of trivia about yourself and your grand-daughter sounds like a lucky little girl. What a wonderful keepsake you are giving her that I'm sure she'll share with her own children some day.

Keep up the good work regarding the fund raiser!

Sounds like a few of us are into racing of some sort. I belong to a Fiero club. Fun little car to drive and Merlin especially, loved to zip around town in it. The people in my club occasionally go on cruises to various points of interest or have permission to race them at the track. Mine are parked at the moment as I'm currently driving a old extended van which seats all three of my dogs comfortably and a seat for each dog!!

Marianne
My husband & I also go on bike runs. He has a Harley.
The last time I was pregnant and he didn't want me on the bike so we took his K-5 Blazer on the Toy Run to Tijuana, Mexico
We led the bikes across the border it was pretty cool and we were still able to deliver toys to all the kids :D
I'm addicted to shoes. I have rubbermaid containers full. EverytimE we go on trip we are always having to find a walmart or target to go buy another bag for me. I'm crazy about shoes. My mother loves it though cuz she gets new shoes alot of the time. LOL.
Bunker loves shoes to. I had bought a really cool pair in vegas 3 years ago and when I was unpacking I told her that these are Mommy, no touch and put then in the sliding mirrored closet doors. I came home the next day and the shoes were destroyed. She actually greeted me at the door with it in her mouth. :x She figured out how to open the closet door. Not a stupid dog.
Sorry Darcy! I'm hobbling around with the bad knee so do just what I have to do, nothing more. Got my mother's and aunt's groceries and booze, delivered, took them out to eat, went to St. Haralambos in Glendale for church as was on my way home Monday morning. Peoria and 86th was as close as I got to Phoenix.

Speaking of knee  this a.m. emptying groceries from car.....Jack came running up behind me and skidded right into my bad knee :(

"...equal and opposite reaction....." two grocery sacks flew up and I prayed as I grapped the car for support......no glass in those sacks, please. You know, spaghetti sauce makes a mess on concrete. And ice on sore knee feels great. With today's medicine, it may be around October before I can get the damaged stuff removed from inside my knee. (I'm not a big time athlete who gets priority service, or a sweet young thing, I'm an "old" lady...not so old, but sure feeling it right now. We rank near the bottom of the priority list. Actually I've come to discover my 88 year old mother, 90 year old aunt and 92 year old uncle rate even lower on the list...)

In the mean time, I hobble.
Sheepie Boss, I'm so sorry to hear that! Knee pain is the worst. Next time you're in town let us know if we can help.
Yes Sheepie boss, Sorry to hear about your knee!! Take it easy and maybe wear a body pad just in case the kids run at you again!! :D
Okay, just realized something else about me....Im an Ironing addict! Every time I wash my sheets, I have to iron them before I put them back on the bed....I love how ironed sheet look and smell......
That ironing sheets thing made me laugh...lol.... I don't iron anything. If we are getting ready for work and a shirt or something is wrinkled we throw it in the dryer for five minutes.... however....
In regards to sheets, I am obsessed with high quality percale sheets. Give me 1000 thread count egyptian cotton anyday...lol....
Willowsprite, I hear you on the high thread count!!!! I just bought $20.00 sheets at target because we needed them for our queen bed and we are getting a king size bed in Dec. so I didnt want to spend a lot of money on these sheets...You can really tell the difference!!!Yuck!! Ironing and alot of fabric softner helps, but I really cant wait to buy good sheets again...sigh..I will probably still iron those too :D Brian doesnt like me to iron his work stuff...navy tee and shorts because he said all of the other guys at the station were making fun of him...too nicely pressed..I didnt see anything wrong with that, but hey, I dont hang around a group of guys for 24 hrs at a time :D
Darcy wrote:

I don't know how to iron. I either buy new stuff or I call my mom over and invite her for "dinner."
Jill...LOL...My mom is in FLA now "Bless her heart" (see picture thread to get this :D ) ISJ(inside joke)......I do love ironing and cooking. I should have been a 1950 house wife...a regular June Clever...well,with a bad attitude 8O
Elisa: That's fine, I say ugly things about them all the time. I guess it doesn't matter who you work for, you can always say bad things about them.
Betsy,
I was working for Hewlett Packard before I had my daughter. I have had no problem calling up customer service and giving them a piece of my mind... They did fix my problem though....After a few phone calls and many hours of stress. They make the best printers, but I am not so sure about computers. I own one and it gave me a lot of problems in the beginning. Works fine now... but boy did I go through a nightmare to get to this point.

Elissa
You know I'm fond of telling people I'm going to give them a piece of my mind...to make them smarter..

Elissa - A bit off topic but, I just wanted to tell you I loved the photos of you and your uncle. What a keepsake and you were so adorable!!

Marianne and the boys
