He's lying on the couch & has been quiet all day. Now I KNOW he needs a little brother. The home visit went well and it's my recommendation that the woman get an Airedale. She's had them in the past, so she knows the breed. She asked me if I would leave Brick with her. Sorry, but no. |

Brick wants to know if there are play dates ahead? |
Home visits are fun for the visitors! You usually get treated so well. Thanks for working rescue. |
Mark, when will your new house be built? Can Brick wait that long for a brother???? |
Paula, I'm hoping to break ground in April or May, weather dependent. And he's gonna have to wait that long. |

It's always great to help out with home visits! One more dog getting a new home |
The adoption team approved the woman for a 'dale. We actually have one coming into rescue right now, so he (Henry) will be going to the woman. One of the other members of the team called me this morning wanting to do the transport. I called the adopter and left a message. The other member called the surrender-er and left a message. We never heard from either of them today. Can't say that I blame them. It's a lot to organize on a moment's notice. Hopefully we can rehome Henry this coming weekend. |
Finally got a hold of the adopter. I'll be delivering Henry to her this Sunday. |

Got some bad news yesterday regarding this rescue. The owners just told us they're going to keep Henry. <sigh> They said they have a friend who will take him while they build their house. I still want to know what they plan on doing about his over exuberance, which they listed as one of the reasons they wanted to rehome him. Now I have to call the adopter & break her heart. Not looking forward to that. |
I can't tell you how many surrenderers bailed at the last minute....often when I arrived to get the dog. Maybe they resented a fat old lady taking away their dog. What, she think I was going to eat it? So sad. I hope the new owners are worthy. |
Oh sorry you are in that position mark. Kiss brick for me. He did good work |
It's too bad for the adopter, of course. Hopefully another nice dog will come along. But, honestly, keeping a dog in his original home is a bigger success story in my book (even though the owners did it themselves in this case, and let's hope it sticks) than rehoming one. Local rescue person once talked a totally distraught woman out of surrendering her young, exhuberant OES whom she loved dearly and was just sobbing at the thought of giving up by introducing her to the magic of baby gates (Not exactly the world's most high tech solution ). Her husband was ill and faced a long recovering and she was so overwhelmed by that and contemplating managing the dog that she couldn't think straight. It would have been easy for us to take the dog and rehome him, we had a waiting list a mile long. But this was a better solution for everyone involved. So wonderful when it all works out. Kristine |
I told her this evening. She was disappointed. She had gone out and bought a harness, matching leash, toys, food. Her grand kids kept asking her when the new dog was coming. There may be an Airegirl coming into rescue soon but nothing definite. Maybe this one will be the one for the adopter. |
ahhh, that is really tough. |
That is really tough. I feel so sorry for her. It seems to be common, at least here in Aus. I hear lots of similiar stories and it's just happened to my SIL, twice. About a decade ago I rehomed a 4ish year old golden lab with them and they completely fell in love. He was a fabulous dog but his owner's partner was OCD and couldn't stand the hair or the thought of dog germs in her house and he was lonely and she was over him. Long story short after converting them to the joys of lab ownership he was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 8 years old and they had to send him over the bridge. They got a puppy a girl called Saffron and d#$% me if she didn't get lymphoma at 6 years old and they've just helped her over the bridge too. They weren't sure about a puppy so in the past 2 months they've been on the verge of adopting and both times the owners have changed their minds at the eleventh hour. My SIL couldn't stand the disappointment any more so she convinced her DH to go with a puppy. They just got him on Thursday and we're going to visit and meet him tomorrow night. I don't know his name yet but I've been to the pet store and bought up lots of baby gifts. Stuffies and puppy treats. I plan on taking some pics and will post them on Monday. |
