OES Puppy Coat to Adult Coat

We are new to the OES world, but are exitedly awaiting our new puppy to be born in March, ready for us in May!! I do have a question on the puppy coat markings. I know they are essentially black and white in puppyhood, then changing to grayish and white in adulthood, but does the gray come out wherever they were black? In other words if their face is half white half black, can we assume it will change to half white and half gray? Does my question make sense? Thanks for any help!

Exciting news about your puppy! Yes, wherever their coat is black when they are a puppy it turn grey when they are older their markings won't change just their colour. Our puppy had a black eye patch which is now grey; the markings do become less noticable when they turn grey and grow out a bit but they are in the same spot.
Leonard did grow some eyeliner though, when he was a puppy his non patch eye was pink with no black and the older he gets he is growing pretty black eyeliner around his pink eye- this has not affected his coat markings in any way.
They don't all turn gray, this our first male at 13 years old. He stayed black to the very end.

One more thing - there is a junior or transitional coat in between that black puppy coat, and the final gray color that they will be. That junior coat is usually a bit lighter than the final color gray.

I have a spectrum here - light and dark. Chewie on the right is 6 yrs, and always has been a very dark gray. Bond on the left is 14 months in the picture, and in his transition. He likely will be a bit darker than this as an adult, but not anywhere as dark as Chewie.

Thanks so much for your replies, we appreciate it!!
