DLR! |
David of course! |
Haha! I actually thought this was going to be a "What should I name my new sheepie pup?" poll I think either one would be awesome for that! |
DLR hands down- especially early days! Saw Hagar in concert with VH once or twice and DLR with VH a few years ago, never saw DLR in his hay day so can't compare properly but even an old DLR kicked Sammy's butt! Gary Cherone doesn't even count as a member of VH IMO! My brother works in the industry and when Chickenfoot was touring took my husband back stage for a M&G and we have the cutest photo of my brother's daughter who was 1 1/2 at the time, wearing these sound protecting ear muffs- getting her cheeks pinched from Sammy Hagar. Chickenfoot are the nicest guys! Chad Smith practiced the whole M&G long and MIchael Anthony gave the biggest hugs. ANY way back to the concert with DLR- very cool to see him since I was too young for concerts way back when. Had tickets for them to play again last year I think but then ended up cancelling those dates. Wolfie had some stage presence and was fun to watch interacting with EVH but to have VH back on tour without Michael disappointing. Can go to the grave happy hearing DLR sing VH songs right in front of me! |
I'm glad you all gave the correct answer. I asked because "Ice Cream Man" came on my iPod this morning and I thought "it doesn't get much better than this." |
I vote DLR |
My vote would be for DLR...although Sammy did a good job too. In my mind, Van Halen with either of them is still way better than most bands! |
My nephew and I are big VH fans. His name is David (goes by Dave) and he named his dog Sam. I guess he likes both! |
Definitely Diamond Dave! Plus he is into herding! How cool is that? Sammy was ok, but it just wasn't VanHalen. (and I love the new cd! Tatoo is so me...) Shellie |
Sorry Girls your way off the mark Ian Gillan from Deep Purple |
WAYYYYY before my time. |
I have seen David Lee Roth at Donington Park ( Monsters of rock) |
These were there Iron Maiden Kiss David Lee Roth Megadeath Guns N 'Roses Helloween Bailey Brothers Neal Kaye |
David Lee Roth. Not even a contest. I really like Hagar, but only outside of Halen. |
As a huge music fan and a builder/player of guitars I really gotta weigh in on this. Hands down DLR. No discussion. Eddie, Alex and Micheal can play with anyone, but David makes the it the complete package. Look, Sammy is and will always be the Red Rocker. He's know for that. Anytime he's worked with others, it's always seemed like 'that band, and Sammy Hagar'. Even in his latest venture with Joe Satriani, for whom I'm HUGE fan or, it still comes of as 'Chickenfoot, with Sammy Hagar'. Sammy is good at being Sammy. Don't ask or expect him to be something else. It's like when Stevie Nicks goes on stage with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. They'll openly say that she's an honorary member of the band, but it's still 'Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, with Stevie Nicks'. It's just not the same. VH even brought in Gary Cherone for a bit too. For those who don't know, Gary was the voice of Extreme, 'More than Words' was their big hit, which is soooo not their normal style of song. They're a metal band who did one ballad that the adult contemporary stations picked up and ran with. Cherone did not complete the band either and everyone know he wouldn't. I'm an Extreme fan and love Gary's voice but he's not David Lee Roth. It would very much like trying to replace Robert Plant with anyone in Led Zeppelin. It would never work, no matter who you pick. Ever. I don't know why, other than the chance to make money, anyone would even attempt this. Let sleeping dogs lie. If Dave and the boys ever work things out and play live again great. I doubt they'd ever have the spark they once had though; I think that's gone. Sorry, but I feel pretty strongly about this kinda stuff. Working in a music store when I was very young changed me, I'm sure. Vance |
Ignore all the small squabbles. Looks like they're playing, or maybe I missed something big.... http://www.vhnd.com/ |
That's the way I'm reading it... http://www.vhnd.com/2013/02/16/van-halen-to-play-australia-in-april/ Vance |
