- she doesn't interact good enough when older dogs tell her not to play or jump on them. Today I thought she listen to an old Springer Spaniel bitch......it looked so for a while, no - after acting as if she slowed down for a while she suddenly jumped several times at the older girl. This time she was bitten - in her nose and it really hurts (the vet gave her Metacam for pain and antiinflammatory): I Wonder if she learned something today? |
|
You'd hope after that she'll learn something!! Hope she heals up and remembers this day. Vance |
Thanks Vance - I hope so too. The little wound upon her nose is the deepest (7-8 mm). However, she lookes as healthy and happy as always, just complaining a little now and then. (Hope we both get some sleep to night.) |
Jack had his nose opened rather dramatically. The vet suggested just washing it with plain water 2 or 3x a day, no medications, no bandages, nothing for the pain....since it wasn't caused by a bite. (there was no way to stitch it closed either. His nose healed nicely and I didn't have to come up with creative nose bandages. No she probably will not have learned her lesson. |
Poor baby, give her an extra hug from me. And, I hope she at least knows now to be gentle with the oldies. |
Aww that looks nasty! Unfortunately Leonard was involved in a similar altercation this weekend, he is very enthusiastic and sometimes misses cues from other dogs. He was covered in blood and I freaked out only to find a tiny little mark on his muzzle right next to his nose. We washed it and kept an eye on it. He didnt seem to notice at all and I was handling it and he didn't react. It was another male about his age who usually plays really well with my other dog but I think sheep dogs have their own exuberant form of playing which some dogs really can't handle but they think is so fun. Sometimes when I watch my 2 dogs play I could swear they were killing each other but both seen to be having the time of their lives and there is never any damage done. I've learned this isn't the case around other dogs though. Good luck with Joy's face, it's still a show stopper! |
Poor girl. I hope that she did learn her lesson, so that she doesn't get hurt again. |
Thanks - she looks as if she doesn't notice the wounds today. bruuruu wrote: Aww that looks nasty! Sheepdogs play different, and they use there whole body weight to make other dogs play. Bumping and jumping into folks and dogs. ( I think maybe That's why they are so tolerant to other dogs and children when they play - so it's also a good thing about them) I will stop her next time I see that there is absolutly not a playmatch we meet on our way. Nice to hear that Leonards nose healed so well. Wonder if her nose will become black all over again |
Ouch, poor Joy! Hope that both of you were able to rest last night. Hopefully this will remind her to back off. Charm misses cues too sometimes, but fortunately nothing like this has happened. She has a particular group of rowdy friends and rarely meets a new playmate. I suppose that is my solution, now that we are talking about it. I agree with Vance, she's still a heart throb. Nothing could ruin that face |

Nothing could ruin that face Thanks - We both slept very well last night and Joy seems to be ok. She was in a little bad mood when I put her snowsock on. I will give her painkillers in five days. We'll just go several short tours outdoors today because it is cold outside. Hope the wounds grows just fine. |
Hope Joy learns....so many OES just assume everyone will love them and their full contact play! She should heal up well - but looks pretty tender My guys have similar play-style friends - and the breeds are Samoyeds, Boxers, Aussies and Rottweilers...lol Interestingly, there is this poorly bred and no puppy or young dog socialization done Mastiff in my classes. This dog was 3 yrs old before they joined classes, as a last ditch attempt to save the dog. She was so reactive to any person or dog in her environment and had to wear a big muzzle any time she wasn't in her house. They have made AMAZING strides and have gone to class straight every week for a year and also she is seeing a behaviorist vet who is prescribing a med for her. She's been muzzle free for a long time now, and only rarely reacts to stimuli. But the odd thing is she LOVES Bond...Bond who bounces, sweeps his legs on top of her, sniffs her all over and just in general acts like a big excited and happy pup. Bond - who's puppy license for every other dog expired long, long ago! She also really likes Chewie as well - seeks them both out during break times. Guess she just likes sheepdogs!! That's such a switch, as so many dogs are freaked out by them. |
Mine play like big bear cubs. On their hind legs, boxing each other with their front paws. Surprisingly Gracie gets away with doing that with even small dogs, I've seen her "box" little 15lb dogs and just flatten them. Very funny. |

Little Tango is a friend's dog in our therapy dog group. She's a chihuahua/toy poodle mix and she goes gaga with Bond and she totally disappears under his body and all his hair when they play!! And our son's 13 year old min pin Dino who weighs about 8-9 pounds adores Bond, because he will play with him! |
Lovely pics!!! Thanks for showing "big bear cubs" - Tons of fun. And I love the way our sheepies plays! My first oes bitch was even more playful than Joy and she had tons of energy. She was so clever to show respect too, laid down on her back, with the stomach up and she told the grown up dogs that she adored him or her, then up again and she did a lot of playful teasing. Joy could need to learn that too................yep. Below you can watch Joy together with a playful friend, Avita; Buddies. The video is from desember: Clic here: http://vimeo.com/60194033 |
Looks a lot like Leonard and Ru playing! I shared the 2 videos I had on my phone from the last month. Here they are at the dog park about 3 weeks ago: And here they are about fifteen minutes after I cleaned him up after his argument with the older dog (who is the spotted dog in the video) this was last weekend. As you can see he could care less about being told off . You can hear what a growly monster he is and how he constantly tackles poor Ru . Ru loves to play constantly and will rarely tell Leonard off. If you didn't know them and you heard the growling Leonard does you would think he was being mean. But the harassment goes both ways! |
Hope she feels better and heals fast. Love love love the photos of the " bears!" |

And if one of them stop - the other one start all over again....... funny kids. Love the videos! |
