RV-ing with dogs

We stepped over the edge of the retiree crazies this afternoon and bought an RV. We have shopped on line and in a couple lots for several months and did it today. We take delivery this Thursday but have another commitment thru Saturday so won't be able to go anywhere until Sunday afternoon at the soonest.

We want to get a portable fence to put up around the door so the boys have a yard and won't need to use leashes. I saw some 24"x36" 8 panel sets. I think 2 of those should do the trick.

Now to convinced the boys this is their second home.

Did I mention the first time for me to ever drive an RV will be when we pick ours up? Crazies!

You'll do just fine! Back up with help all the time, but going forward just point the nose and the rest follows behind. :D

Have you seen

Is that you? I bookmarked it to read through it. Thanks!
We are back to tent camping, and do it with our dogs. But in the past, we had a pop-up and a small RV that we used. Our dogs always came with us - in fact I've camped at dog shows and dog events a lot! I also have a dog friend with an RV and we take it to shows instead of hotels when it's the more cost effective way.

We do use sections of ex-pens to make a "yard" for the dogs, it works really well. When in my friends RV, we get creative as she has toy breeds, so we need to contain the section under the steps too. She uses a rear-hitch carrier for the ex-pen sections, as they are little pee-ers and that way the pens stay outside the RV. ;)

Have fun and enjoy!
Fun! Where will you go for your first big trip?
Doesn't Cindy with Teddy take long RV trips? She seems like she's got it down to a fine art. Hopefully she'll chime in.
My wife researched where to take our maiden voyage last night while I was at a meeting. She came up with 4 or 5 destinations within about half a day. We will go to the East Texas Piney Woods or to Victoria, Texas to see Old Texas charm.

We will take it to Boise, Idaho in March and to Southern California in June for a family Disneyland visit. Lots of smaller trips in between.

Our neighbor is a veteran RVer and said his first night out is always to a camp about 10 miles away to make sure everything works before they get too far from home.
I can get you an RV space near our Sheep-In this September near Dayton, OH!!!

Post pics of the new digs on wheels!!!

Congrats :) I would love an RV just for dog shows... I think eventually though I'll get a 2 horse trailer with a tack room that I can put an air mattress in because I could use it for dog shows as well as horse trailering.
Dayton in September sounds like a great road trip, there are several good places to stop and sightsee along the route.

This is it. We shopped with the dogs in mind; the only carpet in the cockpit and the bedroom. When it is closed up to go down the road they will have plenty of room to get comfortable. There is even a good spot for both of their food and water stands.

Now that is the knees of the bee!!! We've always wanted a big coach like that so I'm VERY excited for you!!!

Our breeder has a big coach like this and after spending a weekend with her at an outdoor show and fell in love with the idea of having one. It made everything so nice having your 'home' right there. That's the only way to do it if budget allows.

Once you're up here, there are plenty of things to see, especially if you're into planes. The National Museum of the United States Air Force is here. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/ If you're into the history of the RV world, then you'll nee to visit the Airstream factory which is about 45 miles north of us in Jackson Center, OH, http://www.airstream.com/. And I'm sure we can find more things to add to your trip it you want...

Good luck and have fun!
Wow! That's a real luxury liner! That should make anyone with or without a dog green with envy.

Visit a dog show and you'll see every kind of configuration of ex-pen imaginable. Creative ways of hanging pooper-scoopers and everything! Congratulations!!! :high5:
Wow! That's a beautiful rig! I've enjoyed traveling all over the country with my motorhome and sheepdogs. All my boys have loved traveling. I've used it for a few dog shows also. Mine is a class C, 23' and is a antique now, 1985 Chevy Tioga. I lovingly call her "Bertha"....lol

Cindy

Holy Cow!!! I was picturing something a "little" bit smaller. Thats a home on wheels.
Very Nice!! Enjoy!
Our first trip will now be with 3 sheepies! We are even more excited!

On Monday we will drive 4 hours west to Big Spring, Texas and stay until Friday. Howly will have the boys in line by that time! We may need more than 2 16' sections of fence!
That's awesome!

I set up a mesh baby gate so that there was no way (Other than leaping over it, I suppose) that the dog could get underfoot (or in lap) of the driver. Top tip!
Your family has had a big week! A new home/vehicle and a new girl in the house!
Great tip, Ron! We are more accessible in the RV than the car. I will be on pins and needles driving until I get used to it, the last thing I need is a sheepie jumping on my shoulder!
Your new camper is beautiful. You are going to enjoy it so much. Good travels and will be looking forward to seeing pics of your vacations.
WOW! I was expecting something smaller when you said you never drove an RV! That is a luxury home on wheels and I have to admit, I am envious! We have been toying with the idea of an RV for months now - got side tracked with Hurricane Sandy flooding our regular home out. But I want an RV so bad! I was afraid of driving it - and we were looking at something smaller. So, how is it to drive? I want to hear all the details!

Good Luck with your new "home". It is awesome!
WOW, like everyone else, so excited for you :excited: :excited: An RV is one of our dream conversations as a couple looking at retirement.
Your RV is awesome!!!
