Westminster dog show

Appears that there are 21 OES signed up for judging at the Westminster Dog Show (Mon and Tues - Feb 11 and 12). Anyone know someone with an OES there? Are there any favorites among the OES to take Best of Breed?

Inquiring minds...and Winnie ;-) would like to know!

They are supposed to have live streaming this year for breed judging. 1:30 pm (ET) is ringtime. Hope everyone gets there safely.
I've just been hearing about the storm troubles and hoping everyone gets there too.
I was going to fly in this morning but was told La Guardia would be closed until 3. So, I decided not to go........my days of hanging out at an airport are way over, and the chance of being diverted who knows where! No seats on Sunday flight either, and now I see that flight made it :cow:

Elvis will really leave the building since this is his last show :roses: :roses:
Sorry you didn't make it. I'm surprised they didn't delay the Show, but it appears they have not. Sigh. Sorry about Elvis - would have liked to cheer him on!
Heard it's cleared up. I know some won't get there, but the WKC will have a show. Elvis will be there so you can still cheer for him. :cheer: :cheer:
GO ELVIS!! ;-))
Cindy, is Elvis your boy?? We will definitely be cheering him on from home!
OES judging at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) in Ring 6. Tune in and you can watch online! ;-)
Oh my no Heather. Elvis is not mine, but my Cuatro is a younger brother from a repeat breeding.
Pretty soon!

I watched the TFT's for my friend who's at work, then the ACD's, Beardies, now the end of Briards so I can catch the PONS (I have one I'm doing conformation classes for and want to get some expert breed specific tips!), Then OES!
Are they late? Isn't it ring 6?

Wait -see page 20 of the judging program -

They are the 5th breed in at 1330 ET
EVERY single time I try to go to the Westminster KC website my internet crashes. Grrrr....
They're up next!!!!!!!

Vance
I see Sheepies in the background!!!! Holy cow, I'm as excited as if I were there!

Vnce
ANyone know why the judge is taking them one at a time??
The first two were in classes by themselves. First was a boy, second was a girl.

Vance
hahaha #8! lookit the tush on that one!
That ring was way too small for 21 OES. Saw who won but don't know the names - only their band numbers. They didn't post yet the results. Anyone know who won?????
entries list below. official winners not listed on site yet, but chatter is bugaboo dog won.
http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/br ... d=olengshe

:wag:
Bugaboo won from the classes and BOS was Haystac's Sweet Dreams Baby the sister to Apolo and Hailey that I own. Aryakas Hermes took Select and not sure for the girls, maybe Sue ....Lambluv's Live the Dream?
Do you get oversea dogs and could we enter
It was great to see so many all in one spot :hearts: , but I do wish that they had had a bit more space so that we could see them move better.
P. Hermes was bred and born in Geece if that helps.

And I totally agree about the ring size. The last puppy match we went to the rings were noticeably larger. This does nothing positive for larger breeds at all.

Vance
Madeline won os and yahoo had a pic of carol grooming madeline's Eva. I was lucky enough to see these two up close and personal last week. I even got a one on one grooming lesson for a few hours. Going to postpics of my transformed Bella. She now has a butt as cute as david's Maddy!!

Yay!! That is terrific news. And it is amazing what a good haircut can do for a sheepie butt!! I expect butt pictures soon!

Me too Stacy!! grrr too. I'm just gonna watch it on tv tonight  and go play with my Boston now!

You could enter, but we typically only get foreign entries (in our breed, beyond the Canadians, that is :-) ) at Eukanuba and our national.

Half right, if memory serves. His sire is American, and he was, eh, conceived, as I recall, in a hotel room in Michigan during a national. Or at least that was the plan.

Kristine
The Best in group is on live now on TV...CNBC,,,for us on Long Island its Fios channel 602...Herding group will be up soon!
WOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111

I was yelling as loud as my sutures would allow!!! Tomorrow night will be a pins and needles fest!!! Can't wait!!

Vance
Well, that was FUN!!!

Been a while since we had an OES to cheer for in Best in Show :-)

And what a lovely win for the Johnsons. Sweet.

Kristine
I watched the herding group win by myself. Got so excited and hugged Angus' face. He thought "yeah...time to play"" Sorry Angus! Super excited too. Loved the crowd cheering on Swagger. He is a beautiful dog/
YEAH!!!!!!!
:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
We were all fast asleep by the time the herding group came on. My Abbey picked the hound group winner, and I will record last nights show so my girls can watch - since one of them really does watch. It's very exciting to have an OES in the finals!!
So exciting! We were away on business and only got home last night. The girls were disgusting from 3 rainy days on the farm so I had them in the tub and Adam was watching and taping Westminster. He came into the grooming room and asked if I wanted to know who won the herding group and I replied Of Course I Do. When he told me it was the sheepie I dropped everything and came upstairs to rewind and watch it. SO EXCITING!!!! And SUCH a good looking dog. Maybe it's because I was in the midst of grooming, and my girls coats simply look awful after their weekend of muddy fun, but I thought the scissoring and shaping on Swagger was just flawless!
Just seen the winner. To shaped for my taste. Coat should be longer and not trimmed into shape
I just watched on my laptop with Langley he went to around to see the other side. Nope dogs aren't behind the screen buddy :)

I totally saw the Judge light up when he saw the Swagger then the announcer also mentioned the same. Neat.

Congrats!! Cannot wait to find out if he wins. Can you imagine. I think I read on Wiki last win was 1914. He looks huge beside all the other dogs.
:crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
Keeping my fingers crossed for BIS tonight!!!

same here!!!!

Swagger is such an appropriate name for a sheepie. It made me giggle.

Funny, when I see dogs at UK shows I think they look long, straggly and the unkempt hair makes the dogs body look unbalanced... I guess it's what you get used to.

First win was Slumber in 1914, second time an oes got BIS at Westminster was Dudley in 1975. Langley is related to Dudley :)

I am very bummed that we don't get any of the channels that cover Westminster. I pay a fortune for cable every month, with bazillions of channels that don't interest me, and the one time I want to watch something, I don't get it. Grrr. Oh well, Virginia and I have therapy dog class tonight at 8 anyway. Hopefully we come home to some good news!
What about the live streaming on the website? I am trying to find what time and if there will be so much info on the site to shift through.

http://characterchatter.usanetwork.com/wkc/show.php
Swagger got a mention on the ABC evening news tonight.
We are thrilled for Bugaboo and Swagger. This is so exciting.......!!!!!!!!
The wire haired German shorthaired pointer just got best of the sporting group. He was my pick too for that group. Great looking dog that looked great out in the ring.
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Teddy wants to help cheer on our OES!

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

GO SWAGGER!

Mark - no, no, no, no, no. The Golden should have taken Sporting. Did you see his gorgeous head? Though my Banker's uncle was in the Golden group - and I thought he was gorgeous too.

The golden was a good looking dog but there was just something about that wire haired.
Working group:
Tough group. Lotsa nice dogs.
I liked the boxer, the dobie, and the giant schnauzer.
Terriers are up next!
:crossed:

Don't know if I'll stay up late enough to watch much beyond the Airedale.
:cheer: GO OES, Good Luck Swagger! :cheer:

p.s.- I just got a chance to watch video of OES breed judging, was amazing to see so many good looking sheepies! I did recognize a few familiar faces showing. If I'm correct I believe #8 was showing "Porsche", (just like the car), lol. My boy Sammy is related to some of the other dogs showing, exciting! :wag:
I might be a working dog group convert.... so much fluff!
Did you see the Airedale do that little hacking thing? Bricky does that sometimes when he eats his treats too fast.
I wish I could get the girls to look as good as Swagger. But the undercoat would kill them in the Texas heat.
Swagger did great!! Sorry he didn't win it all, but darned close. Our breed is back!!
And, gosh, Winnie watched the whole thing tonight but just couldn't watch Best in Show. I told her that OES did great!!! ;-))
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
That's really great.

Though, it is ALWAYS A friggin' terrier or toy dog who wins!!!! I'm actually really tired of it. No wonder toy and little dogs are the popular ones now. sigh.
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: I loved the way Swagger looked directly at the judge when he stopped by him on the last tour around the ring. I could (almost) see Swagger's eyes saying "please, pick me -- pick me!!" Just like all our OES who just so love to be loved.
Give your OES a hug tonight. This is an awesome recognition or the breed of dog that we all bond with and adore.
I am so proud of Swagger and all OES! Great night!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

Ditto....

I'm thrilled Swagger did well but I really thought he deserved Best In Show and I really actually thought he had it too
Please check out this page for a couple of pics of the last oes winner at Westminster:

http://www.oes.org/html/sihuge.html

I've had that on this site for 10 years waiting for another winner.

Agreed. Big dogs need love!!! I really thought he had it.
He sure did give the judge the eye! Great job to the Johnsons for producing such a great pup. He had tough competition tonight, I was waiting for some dog to blow it. Still think the wirehair fox deserved the trip not the smoothie, but what do I know.

I've always loved both the American foxhound and the Wirehair German........so my heart was slightly being tugged away from Swagger.........just slightly.
Egads I missed the whole thing!!!!! Had a good excuse as I was working hard selling books, and attending a bunny adoption program for Small Animal Rescue that i foster for. Oh sigh...I ended up bringing a cute little fellow home named Angus.

Merlin is in the Bugaboo line!!!! Okay not that I pay attention or even claim to know what's going on but my ears always perk up when I hear the name and then I mention my boy has that lineage. I'll tell Merlin what he missed as he insist on rolling in the deeeeep (dirt) and he was not cut out for show business. I'm so proud an OES finally got the accolades that we all know they deserve. Hmmm guess I'm biased to the breed. :O)

I caught that look too. I had to chuckle because even though you couldn't see his eyes, you could see that expression! I was extremely proud of our breed!!!! Way to go Swagger!!!!!
:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
I read that the winning dog, after having lived for three years with his handler, will go back home to Holland on Wednesday. That must be so hard for everyone. Whereas Swagger gets to go home with his handler/owner/dad and be with him and his wife and three young kids, getting messy and sticky and running around with his little pack. I wonder what special treats he got last night!!
I was so excited watching that big shaggy dog... won my heart!!!

Hope we see a lot of him.

That is not surprising for the Dutch winner. At the level of BIS at Westminster, many of these dogs could not be considered family dogs or pets. Getting to BIS contention at Westminster is closer to a high-stake election campaign with an almost absurd amount of money spent (too much money involved in my opinion, money hurts the "objectivity" of judging). If Swagger's handler is also the owner, that is (sadly) a rare occurrence for a successful dog at Westminster, all the more power to him.
This little story about Banana Joe and SWAGGER is hilarious! Please read.

Yay for Swagger! We watched the last 3 groups and then Best in Show. Foz was rushing back and forth to the tv for 3-4 dogs and then he sat down and literally watched TV on and off for 2 hours! Evan sat next to him for a bit to watch as well which was so cute telling Foz to look at the dogs. Both of them missed Best of Show and I didn't have the heart to tell Foz one more time to pick his head up to watch. If Swagger won, I certainly would have though. Yay!
