Non sheepie grooming question

For any of you that have a northern breed, (Husky, Malamute, spitz types) is there any easy way to strip out the undercoat?

I am having a hell of a time this year with Ritz. He is blowing his coat and it's super bad this year. It seems like everyday it just regrows and I have to strip it all out all over again. AHHH. I've gotten 1 Safeway bag a day full of his hair from brushing and just as much if not more from vacuuming!!! :twitch: :twitch:

My Samoyed friends who show try to hold onto every bit of that undercoat as long as they can......:)

...but, when they concede defeat and want to let it go, the biggest thing they do is bathe and blow them out. That lets loose of the hair big time!
Then lots of combing.

I know some of the pet groomers use furminators, but not sure which size they use for that coat.
The middle of winter in when dogs "blow" their coats. I had a husky...actually three over the years and it was the same every year. Seems like they are losing the winter coat, like in the spring except its not as much.

Hang in there, it will stop soon...and get ready for spring 8O
I have nothing helpful to add, just glad to say *phew*, I'm glad I only have easy to groom dogs! :phew:

Lol! I have to say grooming Lily, is MUCH easier than grooming Ritz. He hates it. He usually will roll onto his back if I am grooming his back and will roll onto his tummy if I am grooming his stomach. If he can, he will steal the undercoat stripping tools right out of my hand and run off with them.
A good powerful blaster and a face mask!
I dread grooming these breeds as they only come when in a state, think it takes longer to clean up than it does to groom them!
there is also a suppliment that you can add to the food I think its called shed lite, but ive never used it.
There is also shampoos that help a moulting coat like the one furminator do, ive tried it but I didnt see much difference but the owner said it helped.
Ferminators are really good on these coats too and you can try the good ol rubber glove too
yeah, they are a mess. Some pro-groomers have a device that helps get the shed coat gone. Brushing, bathing, flowing, brushing, vacuum, brushing.....it's an intense grooming session. Just keep brushing and bagging, it will end. (just one sack? Geez my Pyrs would fill one in about 10 minutes) I would just use a slicker on Sonya........and Abbott......and all the Pyrs....and Harry.

I remember one lady sat down in the yard with her Pyr and brushed out the shed........the pile was bigger than the reclining dog. It will end, trust me.
In the spring, I would do it outside. Huge piles of dog hair...and lots of birds. When the birds finished there wasn't a speck to be found. "They" at least, loved it.
Well after daily grooming, we are down to about two handfuls of fur a day. I found a new way to keep his fur off the furniture........ I bought new leather couches. :yay:
