Is she barking? If she's not barking... I'd consider anything else something you just have to learn to ignore?? I mean this is easy for me to say .....because I have 4 little kids so hearing someone may nudge, climb on, or attempt to suffocate me while I'm on the phone is a BLESSING compared to hearing screaming, an injured child, fighting, nagging, that dreaded Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 100x, or many other vocal things. ...and if my kids do any of those things and it's a call I have to hear... I tell them to leave or I leave to another room even if it's the bathroom or actually stepping outside. So I'd offer the same advice for you. Otherwise, I'd never discourage snuggle or affectionate moments. |
Maybe it is the PROFESSONAL voice that gets her attention and you don't sound like her MOM. When MOM is back she goes back to normal. Just a thought. A number of years ago, I had sheepies that would run/herd me to the phone. When I answered, they looked at me expectantly until I told them 'It's not for you', then slowly they would walk away, heads hanging. AND YES, occassionally people would ask to say hi to them and the dogs would respond. |
Maybe the dog thinks you're talking to him since there is no one else around. lol I swear that my dogs ease drop in on my phone calls. How else would they know that we have to go to the van and go somewhere before I even make a move. I know how they know we're going to the bank because they watch me fill out the paperwork, and they are always ready. Dogs are way too smart. |
Leonard also does this when I am on the phone, not too aggressively but he will lean on my legs or pant into the phone (if I am on the couch and he can get close) he will also bring toys or go squeak his toy. My cat is also annoying if I am on the phone, he head buts the phone and my hand. If I am on speakerphone Leonard will cock his head sideways and listen intently to the other person. I think the whole idea fascinates him. I think it may because they think I am talking to them or they can hear the person on the other end (and this would be exciting of course!) |

Thanks for the input. Maybe she does think I'm talking to her - it would make sense since it's just the two of us in the room. Silly pup! |
I also work from home and have 3 sheepies. For the most part they are used to my phone calls and will entertain themselves or sleep while I am working. Occasionally one will decide they want my attention during a phone call and will nudge and try to get my attention. I hold my hand up and shake my head 'no' and they will settle down. The really funny thing is that most of the day I keep my handset out of the charger ( I do use a land line in the office)--when I do put the handset in the charger --that is a trigger that 'work is over' and they can be sound asleep and hear that phone hit the charger and all three are instantly awake and at the door to leave the office to go play or go in the house. I have tried putting it in very quietly and they still bounce up!! Makes me laugh everytime! |
I don't have this issue, just wanted to say that the replies all made me giggle. Smart sheepies, they know how to get our attention! |
Was reading replies to this post (on my phone) and Leonard nudged the phone out of the way with his nose and licked my face enthusiastically then sat on my lap (this was awkward and made it so I could see nothing but dense forests of hair). He has since moved on to harassing the cat for attention so I suppose I am allowed to use my phone again. He does this sometimes when we are looking at stuff on our phones/computers ... He has also been known to steal phones and tv remotes and trot off with them to grab attention. It works! |
None of my dogs do this but a dog that belongs to a friend does this every time he's on the phone or computer or paying too much attention to anyone but her. She's an american bulldog though, not an oes.... I think dogs that do this are just like toddlers who whine at their parents when they feel they're being ignored. |
Great responses! Maybe I'll let her talk to my mother-in-law on the phone. That should cure her of any further interest in the telephone! I think it is just an attention thing. Might have to send her outside for important phone calls. |

Much LOL here. Winnie BARKS when I'm on the phone or hubby is. I mean BARKS!! Constantly. I think maybe she wants to talk to the person too -- or better yet, lick their face. |
