With the cost of RAM in general being relatively low, I'd go big and never worry about not having more space for that 300th book. But this is just me... Vance |
You'll probably be fine with the 16 GB, unless you have a lot of music or pics or books you want to put on it. |
Depending of course on price, *I* would go for the 32GB, because ya never know what technology may come along and fill it up quickly. Nowadays it's video that really eats up storage. maybe there will be multimedia books down the road. By then maybe this device wouldn't handle them or this device would be completely obsolete. Who knows. To give you an idea, 2-3,000 songs would fit in 6 to 12GB So for *you*.... probably 16 would be enough... but if the difference is only 20 bucks? go for the 32 without a doubt. |
I don't know the Nexus 7 at all but if it's anything like the iPad or Surface, the difference between 16 and 32 gigs won't be 20 bucks. It'll probably be like $100 to $200 more. |
So... I Googled it. I'm seeing $199 for 16G, $249 for 32G https://play.google.com/store/devices/d ... xus_7_16gb I also see on Amazon.com a nexus 7 16G for 249 and a 32 for $269, but it's very confusing to me. There's more than just the Google branded nexus 7 tablet, so it's hard for me to understand what's apples and what's oranges without doing more research on it. |
You would probably do fine with a 16 GB but if the price difference isn't huge I'd go for the 32 GB for sure. |
Actually glad this came up. My son's birthday is friday and he wants one. We went to staples over the weekend and the 16g is $199- the 32g is $249. We were told they were clearing out for new stock. We run into this every year at his birthday and have been able to get good stuff! Ian and I talked about 16 vs 32 - and here's what we decided... By the time he runs out of space he will be wanting a newer one anyhow, and this is a guy who does a LOT with his stuff-- aps, games, music, books. I have recently taken his kindle for my own use (temporarily) just to see how I like it. The ONLY thing I like is that I don't have to travel to buy a book. Otherwise I don't care for it much. I'd much rather have a real book in my hands. If you are a big reader like us and you don't intend to replace it in the next couple years, go for the 32. But that really IS a whole lot of space if you aren't a big downloader. Shellie |
Staples is where I will buy it. There's not many places that sell it and there is a Staples within a mile of my house. Shellie is right--the price diff is $50 which is 25%. I'll get the 16 if they have it. If they don't, I might get the Simple Nook for $79 and just read! What's cool about the Nexus is you can download the Nook AND Kindle apps, so there is the potential for a ton of free books, in addition the freebies from Google. Does streaming music take up space????? (I TOLD you there would be stupid questions!) |
Couple answers... http://www.ehow.com/info_8723581_differences-between-streaming-downloading.html http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090622050410AA4KqPQ |
I don't believe streaming music takes up space, other than the app needed to make it work, which is probably small. I stream Pandora quite a bit on my Droid 2 phone without any hiccups and it doesn't have very much memory. |
Vic says- "FWIW- in case you didn't know, and you probably did..... With the nook you can't access the google ap store- with the nexus you can get everything, much more versatile than the nook. Just in case you were going to do anything other than read." (It sounds to me like you have a great deal more knowlege than I on this though. I try to do my research, but on this one I don't have so much - this one is my son's deal...) Shellie |
Shellie, my friend has the Nexus (I want to call it Lexus for some strange reason). She brought it over Sunday so I could see if it hooks with my WiFi and it does, which is why I'm buying it. I bought a Nook around Thanksgiving and couldn't get it to connect so I returned it. After we got the Nexus going I played with it so was able to see what it's all about. My friend also has a Kindle and told me the Kindle app can be downloaded to the Nexus so I did a little research and found the Nook app can also be downloaded. The Nexus seems much more versatile than the Kindle or the Nook. Now, getting to work is a whole 'nother story.... |
