Thirteen - that is great! Have they biopsied the growth in his ear? If it's not in the ear canal too far, it possibly could be removed with a block or sedation. My 12 yr old lab had a groin tumor removed at 12 yrs, and it was a big surgery - drains and all. She did really well, and lived to be over 15. But your dog's overall health and medical history all play into if it's something you pursue, or just let it ride, even though it may be detrimental to his health. |
That's great, give him a big hug and kiss from me. |
Hi, Congrats to Jazz for reaching that grand ole age. I love old dogs so much! There's two things that come to mind when you mentioned about the possible growth removal. If it's interfering with his hearing and the vet suggest it's removal he might have the right intentions. I'd ask him what would be involved with the removal - mild sedation or ? Would the growth be frozen or lazered off? It may not be that invasive and may in fact help Jazz. I'd ask more questions. My former old guy , Ole Blue was 17 when he had dental which I really worried about but at the time there was no choice as his tooth was absessed and was causing him pain. It took him longer to recover from the anesthetic (2 days of snoozing when he returned home) but otherwise came out fine and lived for another 2 years after. I know with old dogs/cats if they do need to do a deeper sedation it is more costly as they give them IV fluids and non stop care for the duration of their stay due to their age. However, perhaps this isn't the case with All that Jazz (great name by the way!). Take care Marianne |
