1/4" thick luaun or mahogany plywood. 1 sheet would give you 10 pcs. and i believe it would cost around $20 for a sheet and to have it cut. |
You might try checking a local art supply store, custom frame shop or print shop and have matboard or foamcore (a white board with a foam inside and shiny white paper surface) that can be cut to size for you. It would act just like the cardboard, but be much nicer looking. Matboard comes in every color imaginable, but the foamcore has the advantage of being a little bit more cleanable and less absorbent. This is what we use to line the wire shelving my husband uses in his office. For a truly cleanable, but a bit more expensive option, there is a plastic hollow-core board used in signmaking (I don't know what its called) that you can have cut to size as well. |
If the cardboard works well, could you just wrap it in the contact paper made for shelves? That way you could wipe it down easily when needed without messing up the cardboard. |
I have the same thing, and used some heavy duty plastic shelf liner (comes on a roll). It was the perfect depth and I just cut it to fit the length of the shelves. Works perfectly. |
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm at the craft store a lot, so will look at the foam core board. I had a big piece but recently threw it out! I'll also look at WalMart for the shelf liner. |
