Cuddle-duds. |
Nope...I'm a tough Minnesotan I do if I'm spending hours outdoors, but not inside. |
cuddle-duds here too! |
i've been wearing a jacket to sleep b/c i get that cold at night....... this is with a double folded EXTRA comforter "just" on my side of the bed while hubby only has a mink that I share with him and boxers. I do wear long johns, but they are usually from stores I've bought normal pants from since it seems to be the only place I can find low rise ones (i have no butt so there's always saggage). So several from Ann Taylor, a few from American Eagle, and I am sure I have an old school college one from Abercrombie. |
I don't wear Long John's, usually no need for them here, but I do have an electric blanket on my bed. We have a queen size bed and I bought a twin size electric blanket because Chuck gets too hot, so I just wrap myself in my electric blanket. It is funny, because China, who is now 9 yrs old will climb up on the bed and lay against me and were the electric blanket is. I do have the blankets layed under the "dog" cover which is the blanket that protects the comforter from the dogs, then the comforter, electric blanket, flat sheet. Yes we do sleep with the a/c on at night so all the windows can be closed and locked. I don't want the dogs to get hot or wake up with a migraine. |
I don't, but I am known to wear several sweaters and Pajama pants under my jeans along with winter boots. |
cuddle duds we wore them when we did barn work and rode in the winter I wore them in alaska to the iditirod (well those and lots of other stuff!!) |
Cuddle-duds or something similar from Kohl's or Target with sweats around the house and walking the dogs. Silk ones from Lands-end under work clothes for the office....the commute is cold and sometimes my office is ridiculously chilly |
I don't wear long underwear indoors, just sweatpants or fleecy pants and socks. Outdoors its Cuddle Duds when it's cold and silk longjohns when it's cold-ish, under jeans then topped with windpants (nylon lined with flannel). For bitter cold at the barn, I wear Polarfleece lined breeches and my mid-calf down coat. Muffler and hat and gloves and face mask. Needless to say, if it's that cold I'm not out very long! For feet, SmartWool socks. I have a variety of insulated boots depending on the temps. My Sorels are for the extreme cold. Keeps my feets warm subzero. |
Quote: i've been wearing a jacket to sleep b/c i get that cold at night Me too! When we were down in the single digits my bed attire included a hoodie plus a bath towel thrown over the top and wrapped around my neck and shoulders.....maybe more a bath sheet....sheepskin boots and gloves. The house was exactly the same temp as always but psychologically I was colder. Bed started out with regular poly fill comporter aided by a double layer of down comforter. After a few hours I'd move to another bed or recliner where the down comforter (my Linus blanket as referred to by DH) was\is enough. Long johns.........just on top. Cuddle Duds or silk. Turleneck t-shirt and wool over all. Bottoms I just dig out the extra thick sweat pants and long wool socks. |
don't wear 'em, but going to long john silvers for lunch. |

The sad part is we used to make fun of his grandmother because she wore two pairs of long johns (with matching thermal shirt) ON TOP of her clothes just to hang around the house. I can't imagine what she had on at night time... but here I am only......... 29 (in my head at least) ..........and am already acting like her. I can't imagine when I'm her age. The cats are on top of me at night and that adds to the body heat that I need, but I hate it. So cold!! (but husband and kids like it at the temp we use) |
Shoot- I though this post was about Long John DONUTS! I'm tuff- I brave this stuff without even a coat sometimes! I do have to say, I was about froze to the bones yesterday, after going in and out of serveral buildings -- minus 13 with windchill... If I am ouside working, I wear Cuddle Duds under fleece lined sweats. As long as my hands are warm, I am good to go. |
What's the consensus on flannel lined jeans? I've wanted a pair for years but have never been convinced they are truly warm. Anyone have them? |
I always think they're warmer when I put them on the kids. They're so much thicker and I use them for the 1-2 winter days we have here. I'd get them because any extra fabric HAS to be good on my butt. Reason I used to wear boxers over my undies when I was single too. |
yep, i thought they were warmer than long johns and jeans by far. |
I've used sweatpants under my jeans on the bike in 40-45 degree weather and can barely feel the cold, which is amazing. |

I been seeing cuddle duds advertised and had no idea what they were! I must be getting old. we call everything "long johns"...and sorry, no, not the doughnuts! |
So what do people call the long piece of pastry with cream filling and a glaze over the top?? I grew up calling them long johns but they go by a different name now....dont know since I'm not exactly buying doughnuts anymore. |

To me, long johns (the doughnut kind) do not have a filling. They just have glaze on top (must be chocolate). If they are round with cream filling and chocolate glaze, they are Boston Creams (Kremes if you buy them at Dunkin' Donuts). Dawn, where did you get Polarfleece lined jeans? |
Susan- Are you thinking of Bismarks?? |
No, Lori, to me bismarcks are round or oval and filled with jelly or cream. To me long johns are long and creme filled. Last few I've had had no creme.......bummer! So I quit buying them. Caramel glazed, maple glazed, chocolate glazed......loved em all. |

Around here Long Johns (the eating kind) are long and have icing. They would be better (in my opinion) if they had filling too. The jeans - I got them at Mill's Fleet Farm - a farm oriented store that also sells to the urban public too. They are a chain in the midwest, but I bet other similar places carry them. http://www.fleetfarm.com/ and the jeans - http://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/wrangle ... 0000003293 Mine have navy blue fleece. |
Im coming in a bit late...so now this post seems to be all doughnuts! I dont know anything about the doughnuts , but I *do* wear long johns...a LOT I have several pairs of the cuddleduds (both the cotton and fleece versions) and love them, but my favorite long underwear are by far my SILK ones . Silk is great because it insulates in the cold, but doesn't make you overheat when you go inside or exercise to the point that your body heats up. You can probably find them at any store that caters to skiers . I even have hand-dyed colorful ones that look cute peeking out under a skirt . Its -25 F here at the moment by the way. Im wearing fleece cuddle duds *over* silk long johns! |
silks are wonderful!!! I used them when skiing. The way the cold is bothering me lately, I may have to go back to them. Anybody remember fish net thermals? That's what DH wore. |
You could get a parrot with your long John |
