If Your House Had A Name

Hi Everyone,

Years ago I took a cruise and one of the stops was Burmuda. Ohhh if there's a Eutopia I think this place was it!! Beautiful pink...yes pink sand on the beaches...blue...blue water and thousands of flowers planted on the walkways. Every home was painted in pastel colors of peach, blues, yellows and pinks and every home was named. Yes that's right..when you buy a house in Burmuda you give your house a name!

They may not still do this ...but when I visited the tour guide said as there was no streets named and only those born on the Island could buy a home there, everyone had to name their house to identify it. Therefore the mailman would deliver to "Sitting Pretty" or "Pastel Place"...you get the idea.

I have the ugliest basketball hoop attached to my house...long neglected by my two boys and it was put up by the previous owner. Only problem with taking it down is it's been there against the metal siding (which never needs painting) that if I take it down will have two prominant holes where the basketball hoop once was. I've always thought of taking down the hoop but leaving the backboard and painting it. (Maybe with a pic of a sheepie and something underneath...welcome has been used too often so something different.

Thought it would be fun to have a large sign where I would name my house ...kinda like a Bed and Breakfast signage but more appropriate to me. Animal Haven, Shaggy's Place, Pooh Corner..ha ha..okay silly stuff..but keeps me thinking about it..so here's my question to you guys...if your house had a name what would you call it? I can't wait to see what your answers will be..and remember don't name my house but name yours.

It’s not real creative, but for along time we’ve called our place the Yager Hotel. Over the years we have housed my sister, brother, grandmother and taken in three teenagers at different times. Plus you never know who will be here when you get up in the morning. All of my son’s friends know that if they ever need a place to go, this is the place to come. Now we've added Mojo to the mix. Never a dull moment!
I call my house "Jil's House of Fur"

Years ago my parents were looking for a summer property, fairly close to
home. My dad never took vacations so he would be driving to work from
the new place every day. They were hoping to find a cottage or cabin
type place and with all 7 of us kids, nothing seemed to fit. Finally, after
looking forever, down this very long very, windy dirt road they found it.
It was exactly what they wanted, and good thing because it was their
last option. It is common around here to name a vacation property, so
they named it "Last Resort" and put a sign up on a tree in front of the
house.
I can't imagine what I'd call my house though. I haven't yet finished
updating and remodeling, so its always in a state of change. I would
really like to finish it up and move on, but it is hard to accomplish that
much work while living here, and with the kids and the dogs, forget it.
"Altered states" is what comes to mind! Things can change
drasticly around here from day to day! Or Frankenstein - because
nothing really fits together here, part of the house is updated and part
of it still lingers in the 40s!
I can't wait to move - never thought I'd say that!

Shellie
Wigglebottom Zoo

Where Stary animals are always welcome....hehehe...so seems the trend.
Marianne, What an exellent question...I would never had thought of it...anyway if it were up to me, I think I would name the house.....the wood floor dust bunny cottage and I think Brian would name it ....The far east San Diego beach resort :D Are we there yet???!!!!
It is a good question, Marianne! Around here, almost all vacation propertys are named. And since I've always wanted to own/operate a B&B, I like the idea of naming homes.

Last summer I really got into cooking. I had my family and friends over at least once a month for a nice dinner where I'd make up menus, place cards, etc. - you know - the whole nine! I named the house Gardenia Place (in honor of my favorite shrub which surrounds my home and smells sooo good in the summer!) and the menus always read "Dinner at Gardenia Place".
Hmmm, Maybe Haden's Desert Oasis, My husband would go with Haden House...how original or Haden's Haven or for what really fits Haden's Headache. lol
I think Haden's Poop Palace is even more befitting lol.
There are so many names I could come up with. We have Mountain Views of Snow Capped Mountain, Palm Trees, Lizards, Cacti,
Wow I really have to think about this now. I would love to give my first house a name.

Elissa
Hmmmm... never named our house... how 'bout off the top of my head:

Albatross Crossing
Money Pit Valley
Ball & Chain Gardens
Aggravation Asylum

I seem to detect a theme...
I call my new place "Casa de Hobart." It's on Hobart Dr. Not too original.
My house would have to be named "Caution crazy excentric people live here and two dogs"
I think The Zoo would be a good choice for my house...Although we only have 2 cats and 1 dog and 2 people, the house isn't that large and all our animals have so much personality--it fills up the space!
Do you guys remember the show "Green Acres"? It took place in a little town called Hooterville. Remember that?
Well, when I first moved out into the country where I live now, my sister and I started saying "We're off to Hooterville" when we drove out there. (It's about a 20 minute drive from local civilization.) So even now, my family frequently refers to my place as Hooterville.
You guys are fantastic!!! The names you came up with are so creative!!

I forgot to add Animal House and Happy's Place to my list.

Umm no don't have toga parties..just a house full of critters...and Happy has been my nic name for the last 20 years.

The Gathering Place? Seems like people and animals like to visit here all the time! lol :)
My home will be called: The Catnip Cottage - because catnip is eeeeverywhere!

Current home: Camp Pest (Because it seems that mosquitos, fleas and ticks have made a summer camp here).
The most appropriate name for my house would be simply....the insane asylum
I keep looking at this thread and can't think of anything that goes with the family friendly rating.....lol.....  8O
Okay so I'll breech the family friendly rating, somewhat. (Have to be a smart kid to figure this out!)

Our campsite is named: MorningWood Estates.

The guys thought it was the greatest thing ever! I just thought it was funny to hear the Amish people giving directions and such and using our campsite name as a landmark. "You go down to MorningWood Estates and turn left to the creek......"

I am officially embarassed!
That's hilarious. Is there a sign and everything? Is it in the shape that would be, um, appropriate?
Well,  , my hubbie and I often refer to this place as "Dog #### Acres." I would not put that on a sign tho'

Neighbors refer to it as the White Dog House since the Pyrs are so obvious while the MO and Harry tend to blend it the shadows. Now Jack has a lot of white for a sheepie, so when he earns the privledge of being outside with the others and visible to the public, then White Dog House name will continue.
Maxmm, took me a minute to "get it" but that is hilarious!!!!!
There is a sign and it lists all of our names on little signs underneath it. If you do something wrong, your name gets moved to the bottom of the pole. I think that if something happens we'll have to leave the sign because it's such a landmark that no one will know where to turn if it were gone.
I think most of the community would expect to see Pinewood Acres. On a 12,000 lot I have about 20 species of trees, with about 20 of them being pine trees. Its a typical subdivision lot, not a country location.
Beauregard's Mom, you made me laugh. When Tim and I decided to get married, I had to move from my highrise in Chicago to, in my mind, The Middle Of Nowhere. I'm such a city girl - born in NYC, spent my adult life in Chicago! So we have a long running Green Acres joke around here.

"I just adore a penthouse view. Darling I love you but give me Park Avenue"

wow -you're a lot more qualified for the joke than I am then! The little town I'm from just barely does qualify as a city!
Maxmm.........Taskers mom...................I just got it too  I thought it sounded nice....at first......ha ha
hehehehehe
Mandy, I'm blushing
I love the mental image I got when I read about the umm "appropriate shape" for the Morningwood sign!! haa-haa!!! Our house is definately "All Crazies Welcome".
