Therapy dogs

Virginia and I have signed up for a therapy dog course and I am so excited! According to the list of what she needs to be able to do to 'pass', she could pass now, but I thought I would take the course anyway so that I could learn more, make sure that I understand what is expected. She already does informal emotional counselling when we go for walks-she has a knack for spotting people in need of extra cuddles. I know several of you do the therapy dog thing, but have any of you taken a course or did you go straight for the exam? Wondering what to expect.

In other news, Gracie and I have signed up for Obedience. Again, more for me than for her. I am a bit bummed that I discovered the joy of dogs so late in life, I feel like I have much catching up to do!

Fantastic on both counts!!!!

And I know what you mean. I grew up horse crazy. Always had dogs, but didn't get serious about them till my 30s. Then I see these kids out there doing agility. So envious! :-)

:hearts: :hearts: I knew Virginia was special......it's her time to shine. Good for you :clappurple:
Great stuff!!
I'm like Kristine, always had dogs except for about 7 years in my 20's when I lived in an apartment but I was in my 40's before I got serious. :(
So excited for you and Virginia!! She's such a sweet girl :hearts:

I'll be anxious to hear about the focused course for therapy. That is my goal for Charm also, but no specific training here. We just started our fourth obedience class, and so excited to find this trainer. Hopefully, she can lead us toward our goal!!

Good luck to you, I'm certain Virginia is a natural. Looking forward to your progress :clappurple:
Good luck with the therapy dog training class. Doing this (volunteering with your dog) is teamwork, and if it makes you feel more confident and prepared, then it's a good thing. I've had many people nervous and then make their dogs nervous, and have failed or nearly failed because of it.

And hey - better late than never. ;)
Yay Kim! Hope you enjoy the class--would love to hear more when you get started!
How exciting for you and Virginia. I'm convinced sheepies are natural therapy dogs--people are just drawn to them. I'm sure the experience will make both of you very happy and satisfied in your souls.
Congrats!
Wonderful news, you and Virginia and perfect for therapy. And your doing obedience with Gracie, great. I think it's never too late to get into the dog thing.
With your girls I'd think Gracie would ace the obedience. It's a great way to further bond with your doggie......like you have trouble with your 3 angels. Keep us up on the classes!

Gracie is actually an extremely quick learner, and she behaves really well. She seems to have no stubborn or rebellious traits, which Mady and Virginia have a little bit. Overall, yes, they're perfect.
