My sister's saint bernard has wobblers. It is a compression of the spinal cord. The spinal cord grows to big for the spinal column, gets inflamed and thickens. He's had it since he was a baby. It was sort of managed with cutting his food so he didn't grow as fast. There's not much they can do for him. He manages pretty well, although he still kind of has that rear end wobble and on surfaces like hardwood, tile or lamanent (sp) he has some trouble getting up and down on those surfaces. He drags his toes sometimes. I know it is inherited genetically in dogs and there are different options from physical therapy, diet, to surgery. My sisters saint is almost 3. |
Here is gordon the saint and my hound. If you look closely and know what to look for, you can tell he has wobblers but as you can see he gets around fine and is a happy go lucky dog. It hasn't progressed too much since then, its a slow thing. He is twice as big now or maybe bigger..he was 5 months then I think. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=163477293677341&saved And just so you can see how big he is now. (him and my sister) |
